Diamondbacks release veteran C Gerald Laird
The Arizona Diamondbacks unconditionally released veteran catcher Gerald Laird on Monday, per MLB.com, ending his brief tenure with the team. Laird has played all of one game, with two at-bats, in 2015, his first season with Arizona. He had been on the DL with a back injury since early April.

Diamondbacks' Gerald Laird activated from DL, DFA'd on Thursday
Arizona Diamondbacks veteran catcher Gerald Laird was activated off of the 60-day disabled list on Thursday. Laird was subsequently desginated for assignment. Laird has played all of one game--two at-bats--in 2015, his first season with Arizona. He has been on the DL with a back injury since early April. But with the D-Backs already carrying three catchers (Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Welington Castillo and Oscar Hernandez), Laird was squeezed out of a job in Arizona. Laird is a 13-year veteran and has spent time with five different clubs during his career.

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gerald Laird (back) will throw Thursday for the first time in eight weeks, according to MLB.com. He will then hit in a few weeks and targets a return to action after the All-Star break. Laird has been sidelined since early April. He appeared in just one game before undergoing back surgery in late April.

The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled infielder Danny Dorn from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday. They also moved catcher Gerald Laird (back) from the 15-day to the 60-day DL. Dorn was hitting .474 (18 for 38) with one triple, two home runs, four doubles and eight RBI in 10 games for Reno.

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Sunday that they have placed catcher Gerald Laird on the 15-day DL, retroactive to April 9, with lower back spasms, and that they have recalled pitcher A.J. Schugel from Triple-A Reno. Laird, who made the team as a non-roster invitee in spring, was scheduled to start Saturday, but was a late scratch from the lineup with back tightness. Schugel was 6-4 with a 3.47 ERA in 26 starts for Double-A Mobile last season.

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gerald Laird was scratched from Saturday's lineup against the Dodgers and replaced by Tuffy Gosewisch. Laird was the preferred option to work behind the plate with rookie Archie Bradley slated to make his major-league debut, but he is been dealing with back tightness, the team announced. If the team thinks he'll need more than a few days to recover after re-evaluating him Saturday, he could be placed on the disabled list, the Arizona Republic reports. The Diamondbacks are heavy underdogs (+185) against the Dodgers Saturday.

Diamondbacks add Gerald Laird, Jordan Pacheco to roster
The Arizona Diamondbacks have added pitcher Archie Bradley, catcher Gerald Laird and utility man Jordan Pacheco to the 25-man roster for Opening Day, the team announced Saturday. Laird was a non-roster invitee and will join Pacheco in backup catcher duties for the team. Laird hit .161 with a double and a triple in 31 plate appearances this spring. Pacheco hit .281 with five doubles.

Diamondbacks postpone decision on Gerald Laird
The Arizona Diamondbacks signed Gerald Laird to a five-day contract extension, which keeps him in camp with the team through Sunday. Laird is in camp as a non-roster player, and his original contract had an out that he could exercise on Tuesday if he wasn't going to make the team's roster.
