Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Recalled from Triple-A
The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled Yilber Diaz from Triple-A Reno on Thursday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.Diaz had four starts for the Diamondbacks in July, and he notched a quality start in the first two. In the third game he surrendered seven earned runs across three innings, but he bounced back in his final outing July 28 by allowing just one hit in five scoreless frames before returning to Triple-A. The right-hander worked out of the bullpen in his last two outings with Reno and should serve as a long reliever while up with the big club.

Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Returns from minor-league IL
Yilber Diaz (finger) was reinstated from Triple-A Reno's 7-day injured list Thursday and struck out six while allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over five innings in his return to the club's rotation.Diaz was placed on Reno's IL on Aug. 7 with a blister on his right hand but missed just over a week of action before making his return. The 24-year-old righty acquitted himself well in four starts with the big club earlier this season, but he could struggle to get another look with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2024 if all of Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Brandon Pfaadt, Eduardo Rodriguez, Jordan Montgomery and Ryne Nelson are all able to stay healthy down the stretch.

Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Goes on Triple-A IL
Yilber Diaz was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Reno on Thursday due to a blister on his right hand, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.Diaz is expected to miss just one start with the issue. The young right-hander held a solid 4.05 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB in 20 innings covering three starts for Arizona last month, but with Eduardo Rodriguez back and Merrill Kelly's (shoulder) return imminent, Diaz probably wasn't going to be back in the majors anytime soon even if he was healthy.

Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Bounces back with strong outing
Yilber Diaz did not factor into the decision in Sunday's loss to the Pirates. He did not allow a run and gave up one hit while walking four and striking out seven over five innings. The only hit allowed by Diaz was a leadoff single from Andrew McCutchen to begin the game. He had to work around some traffic on the bases in the first and third innings but otherwise put together a fantastic bounce-back outing after getting shelled in his prior start against the Royals. Diaz punched out a career-high seven batters, which included striking out the side in the fourth inning, after only racking up seven strikeouts in his first three career starts. He now owns a 4.05 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB in 20 innings so far and lines up for a rematch against the Pirates on the road over the weekend.

Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Cruises to first win
Yilber Diaz (1-0) allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out two over six innings, earning the win Saturday over the Blue Jays.Diaz has opened his major-league career with a pair of quality starts, allowing one run over six innings in each of them. The Blue Jays' lone run against him was on a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Diaz has also posted a 7:3 K:BB over 12 innings. The 23-year-old showed more strikeout upside in the minors, but if he can continue to limit traffic on the basepaths, he should find success. Arizona's rotation is unlikely to be at full health until early-to-mid August at the earliest, so Diaz may get a few more chances to audition for a more permanent stay in the majors.

Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Remaining in rotation
Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed that Yilber Diaz will make another turn through the Arizona rotation Saturday versus the Blue Jays at Chase Field, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.Jordan Montgomery (knee), Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) and Merrill Kelly (shoulder) are all in the midst of throwing programs and may be on track to return from the injured list within a few weeks after the All-Star break, but their continued absences should clear the way for Diaz to stick around in the big-league rotation for a little while longer. Diaz earned a second turn through the rotation after dazzling in his MLB debut Monday, striking out five while permitting just one run on four hits and one walk in a no-decision against Atlanta. Despite his limited big-league track record, the 23-year-old right-hander shapes up as a decent streaming option this weekend against a weakened Toronto lineup that could be without Bo Bichette (calf).

Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Impresses in big-league debut
Yilber Diaz allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out five batters over six innings in a no-decision against Atlanta on Monday.Diaz got the call-up to the majors after making just four starts at Triple-A and more than held his own against big-league hitters. The right-hander served up a solo homer to Austin Riley in the first frame but didn't allow any extra-base hits or runs thereafter, notching a quality start with five punchouts. Diaz certainly pitched well enough to earn another turn in the rotation, and if he gets that opportunity he's lined up to face the Blue Jays at home this weekend.
