Mets' Tylor Megill: Will miss 2026 season
Tylor Megill (elbow) had Tommy John surgery Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.Megill was looking at alternatives, but undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow was deemed the best path forward for him. Unfortunately for the right-hander, this effectively sidelines him for the entire 2026 season at minimum.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Surgery likely on horizon
Tylor Megill (elbow) is expected to need Tommy John surgery, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. The right-hander is still getting opinions on the best path forward, but surgery on his elbow appears to be the most likely outcome. Megill hasn't pitched for the New York Mets since June 14, and full Tommy John surgery, rather than a hybrid or internal brace procedure, would sideline him for at least the entire 2026 season. He wraps up the current campaign with a 3.95 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 89:33 K:BB through 68.1 innings over 14 starts.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Set for further evaluation
New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Wednesday that Tylor Megill is being further evaluated as the team seeks to find the source of the pitcher's right elbow discomfort, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.Megill has been shut down after he experienced tightness in his pitching arm following his most recent rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday. Mendoza noted Wednesday in regard to Megill's status that Tommy John surgery has not been discussed, though that doesn't necessarily mean it won't be in the future. The righty has been out since mid-June due to elbow trouble, and his availability for the rest of the season is very much in doubt.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Shut down from throwing
The New York Mets have shut down Tylor Megill (elbow) from throwing after the 30-year-old right-hander experienced tightness in his right arm, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.Megill was knocked around for five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three batters across two innings during Sunday's rehab start with Triple-A Syracuse. Laura Albanese of Newsday notes that Megill experienced tightness when throwing his secondary pitches and will undergo an MRI, but this latest setback puts a potential return this season in jeopardy.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Endures rocky rehab start
Tylor Megill (elbow) allowed five earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three in two innings during his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Syracuse. He also hit two batters and threw a wild pitch. After turning in a 21:6 K:BB and posting a 1.93 ERA over 14 innings in his first four rehab starts between Syracuse and Double-A Binghamton, Megill has regressed while making his last two minor-league appearances for the Triple-A club. Between those outings, Megill has allowed six earned runs on 10 hits and four walks across six innings. Though he's now tossed at least 65 pitches in each of his last four appearances in the minors and looks to be stretched out enough to handle a starting role, Megill's poor showings his last two times out have probably removed him from consideration for a spot in New York's rotation once he's activated from the 60-day injured list. The New York Mets look content to proceed with rookies Jonah Tong and Brandon Sproat at the back end of the rotation, so Megill could be ticketed for a long-relief role with the big club once his rehab assignment ends.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Strikes out five in rehab outing
Tylor Megill (elbow) struck out five batters and allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks over four innings in a rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Syracuse. After tossing five innings in the third start of his rehab assignment Aug. 22, Megill has now covered four frames his last two times out at Triple-A, but he was able to get stretched out to 79 pitches Tuesday and looks ready to return from the 60-day injured list. The New York Mets haven't confirmed that Megill will be deployed as a starter upon his activation, though he looks like a decent bet to get a look in that role while Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea have struggled since the beginning of August to put their standing in the rotation on shaky ground. If Megill is inserted into the rotation, he could be reinstated for Sunday's game in Cincinnati, though the Mets may prefer to wait until early next week to make a roster move in order to give him an extra day or two to recover from Tuesday's outing with Syracuse.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Needs another rehab start
The New York Mets will have Tylor Megill (elbow) make at least one more rehab start before considering activating him from the 60-day injured list, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.Heading into the week, Megill looked to be a candidate to start Friday's game against Miami, but the Mets opted to give him another rehab start to stretch out. The 30-year-old right-hander ended up taking the hill Thursday for Triple-A Syracuse in what was the fourth overall outing of his rehab assignment. He covered four innings and tossed 70 pitches for Syracuse, striking out four while allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks. Megill will likely take the hill again in the minors early next week in what could be his final rehab start, but his role upon his return from the 60-day injured list has yet to be determined. Though Megill is building up as a starter, he could be relegated to the bullpen if top prospect Jonah Tong -- who will be called up from Syracuse to start Friday versus the Marlins -- fares well in his big-league debut and earns himself additional turns through the rotation.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Making another rehab start
Tylor Megill (elbow) will make another rehab start with Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. The New York Mets had left open the possibility that Megill would return from the 60-day injured list and rejoin their rotation Friday against the Marlins, but they've elected to give the right-hander one more rehab start in order to extend his pitch count to around 80. Working his way back from a sprained UCL in his right elbow, Megill has been superb in three rehab outings between Syracuse and Double-A Binghamton, spinning 10 scoreless frames with a 17:2 K:BB.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Could join rotation Friday
Tylor Megill (elbow) could be activated from the 60-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Marlins at Citi Field, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. The New York Mets will likely want to add a sixth starter this coming Friday in order to buy an extra day of rest for David Peterson and Kodai Senga, and while prospects Brandon Sproat and Jonah Tong are also call-up candidates, Megill might make the most sense after an impressive effort during the third start of his rehab assignment this past Friday with Triple-A Syracuse. In the outing, Megill allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out four and firing 39 of 65 pitches for strikes. If he does get activated to start Friday, it's not clear if Megill will remain in the rotation beyond that outing, asNolan McLean has pitched well in his first two big-league stats to make a case for a permanent stay with the Mets. Over 68.1 innings this season before being sidelined by an elbow sprain in mid-June, Megill compiled a 3.95 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 89:33 K:BB.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Dominant in second rehab start
Tylor Megill (elbow) struck out nine batters over 3.1 scoreless innings in a rehab start for Double-A Binghamton on Sunday. He allowed just one hit without walking a batter. The right-hander was simply too much for Eastern League hitters, firing 39 of 55 pitches for strikes in his second rehab appearance. Megill hasn't pitched for the New York Mets since June 14 due to an elbow sprain, so he'll need at least one more start in the minors before potentially being an option for the big-league rotation, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he gets two more while the team takes a look at top prospect Nolan McLean. Over five innings for Binghamton on his rehab stint, Megill hasn't given up a run while posting a 13:1 K:BB.
