  • Livan Soto SS | BAL

Orioles' Livan Soto: Sent back to minors

The Orioles optioned Soto to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday.

Soto was deemed expendable as the Orioles get a couple infielders back from the injured list in Jordan Westburg (hand) and Ramon Urias (ankle). He's put up an .862 OPS in 12 games during his time with Baltimore in 2024.

  • Rays' Christopher Morel: Taking seat Sunday

Morel is not in the lineup for Sunday's contest against the Blue Jays.

Dylan Carlson will patrol left field and bat leadoff for the Rays. The Blue Jays are using a right-handed opener in Ryan Burr and are then expected to turn to lefty Ryan Yarbrough in bulk relief, so Morel is a candidate to enter mid-game.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Swats homer in win

Bogaerts went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's win over the White Sox.

Bogaerts launched a two-run homer on a hanging cutter from Chris Flexen in his first trip to the plate to put San Diego up 2-0 early. It marked the shortstop's 11th long ball on the campaign and his fourth this month, during which he's batting just .234 with 10 RBI and six runs scored. Bogaerts has also hit safely in each of his last three contests, though he had gone five games without recording a run or an RBI coming into Saturday.

  • Jorge Polanco 2B | SEA

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Raps out three hits in win

Polanco went 3-for-5 with an RBI single and a double in a win over the Rangers on Saturday.

Polanco plated the Mariners' second run of the day with his timely first-inning knock, and he later added his first two-bagger since Aug. 20. The veteran infielder is having another mostly difficult month, however, as even Saturday's production only served to push his September slash line to a forgettable .169/.219/.288 across 64 plate appearances.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Reaches base five times in win

Marte went 2-for-2 with three walks, a home run, a stolen base, two total runs and two total RBI in a 5-0 victory against the Brewers on Saturday.

Marte reached base in each of his first four plate appearances, and then capped his performance with a two-run blast in the ninth inning. It was the second straight game with a home run for the second baseman, and he's reached base safely in nine of his last 10 plate appearances. With two RBI Saturday, Marte tied his career-best mark of 92 in a season, and he's already established a new high with 34 home runs on the campaign.

  • Nicky Lopez 2B | CHW

White Sox's Nicky Lopez: Idle against LHP

Lopez isn't in the White Sox's lineup for Saturday's game versus San Diego.

The left-handed-hitting Lopez will step out of the starting lineup Saturday with southpaw Martin Perez set to toe the slab for the Padres. Lopez's absence will allow Jacob Amaya to pick up a start at shortstop while batting seventh.

  • Mickey Gasper 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Mickey Gasper: Returns to Boston

The Red Sox recalled Gasper from Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Gasper will serve as the roster replacement for Rafael Devers (shoulder), who landed on the 10-day injured list. The former has spent the majority of the season in the minors, slashing an impressive .328/.439/.531 with 12 homers and 58 RBI across 380 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A, though he doesn't project to see much playing time while in Boston.

  • Brandon Drury 2B | LAA

    Angels' Brandon Drury: Sitting Saturday

Drury is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros.

Drury is absent from the starting nine for a second straight game, yielding to Jack Lopez at second base. Drury had started two consecutive games after missing five straight contests with a hamstring injury. It's unclear if his back-to-back absences are related to the hamstring injury.

  • Romy Gonzalez 2B | BOS

Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Gets first chance at third base job

Gonzalez is batting second and playing third base Saturday against Minnesota, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Gonzalez took over for Rafael Devers at third base late in Friday's game after Devers left with a shoulder injury. Manager Alex Cora said after Friday's contest that the Red Sox will likely shut Devers down, which opens up playing time for Gonzalez and Nick Sogard at third base to close the season. It'll be Gonzalez getting the first stab at the hot corner Saturday.

  • Colt Keith 3B | DET

Tigers' Colt Keith: Idle against lefty

Keith isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

With southpaw Cade Povich slated to start on the mound for Baltimore, the left-handed bat of Keith will remain in the dugout Saturday. Andy Ibanez will start at second base and bat leadoff.
