Indians' Dioner Navarro: Heads to Cleveland on NRI pact
Dioner Navarro signed a minor-league contract with the Cleveland Indians on Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.Navarro hasn't appeared in the majors since 2016, but he spent 20 games with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League in 2018, slashing .268/.299/.437 with three home runs and 13 RBI. The Indians don't exactly have amazing options at catcher, so the 34-year-old backstop will likely be in the thick of the competition for a spot on the active roster. Roberto Perez, Kevin Plawecki and Eric Haase are among the others battling for playing time behind the dish this spring.

Dioner Navarro: Reaches deal with independent club
Dioner Navarro agreed to a contract Sunday with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.Navarro has been out of baseball since the end of the 2016 season, with the 34-year-old catching taking the last year and a half off to tend to his wife, Sherley, who has dealt with significant health issues. With Sherley's condition stabilizing in recent months, Navarro has elected to revive his career and is expected to begin appearing in games for Long Island by the end of the month. Blue Jays' Dioner Navarro: Disappointing since return to Toronto
Dioner Navarro is just 3-for-26 (.115) with three walks and six strikeouts in September.Navarro has seen precious little playing time lately -- just three starts over Toronto's last 15 games. Upon his arrival from the White Sox in late August, there were high hopes that Navarro would make an impact as the backup to Russell Martin, but that has not been the case. Even in the unlikely event that he gets another start, the 32-year-old carries little to no fantasy value.

He'll once again assume that role now that he's returned to the team. "Hell get playing time," manager John Gibbons said. "[Russell Martin] is our guy, but he'll be able to spell Russ here or there. ...He'll catch Marco some. We'll see how that develops some." Navarro has struggled at the plate this season, hitting .210 with six homers and 32 RBI over 85 games for the White Sox.

White Sox's Dioner Navarro: Socks rare homer in win
Dioner Navarro went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer -- his sixth of the year -- and a walk against the Phillies on Wednesday. The well-traveled backstop hadn't homered since Independence Day and holds just a .213 average on the season, so it's hard to imagine anyone owning him outside of two-catcher and/or AL-only formats.
