Yankees catcher Chris Stewart missed a third-straight start Monday at Baltimore because of a groin injury. Stewart, who has become the primary starter with Francisco Cervelli on the disabled list, is batting .316 (6 for 19) in his last six games.

Stewart said he's feeling better, but he thinks it will be a few more days before he's in the lineup, according to The Journal News.

Yankees catcher Chris Stewart would be available Sunday against the Blue Jays in an emergency situation only, according to the Journal News and manager Joe Girardi. 

Stewart, who tweaked his groin Thursday, won't be starting for at least a few more days.

"I have told him that tomorrow maybe we’ll start some tee and toss and see where he’s at in that situation, moving around," Girardi said. "He’s still a guy who I would not hesitate to put in there if I had to, but I figured if you can get one more day in a sense, where it gives you almost 36 hours, let’s take it, take advantage of it. I don’t know if he would play Tuesday, but I want to know that he’s better so we could make a decision. He does feel better; he told me."

Stewart suffered a groin injury on Thursday but will not miss more than 2-3 games, at most. Stewart underwent an MRI, which ruled out structural damage. He is day to day.

Stewart injured his groin in Thursday's game against Seattle. The injury looked bad at the time -- a muscle pull was feared -- but it appears he'll be ready to return to action in a few days.

Yankees catcher Chris Stewart could be heading for the disabled list after leaving Thursday's contest against the Mariners with a left groin injury, MLB.com reports.

Manager Joe Girardi told reporters that Stewart underwent an MRI immediately after leaving the game. The team has yet to announce the results of his MRI. Stewart sustained the injury in the seventh after awkwardly stepping on the third base bag.

"When he went around the base and stopped, he said he felt something," Girardi said. "He said it didn't pop. He said he was OK, but when we saw him run, he said it continued to hurt."

Stewart is hitting .265 with three home runs and six RBI.

Stewart appeared to have sustained the injury after awkwardly on third base during the seventh inning. Andrew Romine took his place for the remained of the game. Manager Joe Girardi is unsure about the severity of the injury. Stewart will undergo an MRI after the game.

"He said it didn't pop," Girardi told reporters after the game.

Royals catcher Salvador Perez extended his hitting streak to seven games Wednesday against the Angels with two hits, including a double. He also added two RBI for the second time in three games.

Perez is batting .380 (19 for 50) in his last 13 games, raising his average from .256 to .303. He has four doubles, four runs and six RBI in that span.

Yankees catcher Chris Stewart homered on Wednesday during a 12-2 loss to the Mariners. Stewart went deep in the fifth inning for a solo shot, his third of the year. 

The New York backstop went 1 for 4 and is batting .258. He has hit in three straight games and has two homers over his last 10 contests. 

Royals catcher Salvador Perez collected three hits Monday against the Angels.

Perez hit two singles and added a double. He scored one run and drove in two. Perez hasn't hit for power yet this season, but has raised his slash line to .298/.318/.395 in 124 at-bats. He will face Angels starter Jason Vargas Tuesday.

The Indians have been extremely happy with the production and ability of catcher Yan Gomes to this point, MLB.com reports Wednesday. The 25-year-old has impressed manager Terry Francona. 

"This spring we were really pleased, because we didn't quite know [what to expect]," Francona said. "We wanted to see him catch, because we thought we had a chance for an everyday catcher. You never pass up that opportunity. That's why we sent him to Triple-A [to start the season]. He's getting better fast. It's very exciting."

Entering Wednesday, Gomes had logged 84 innings behind the dish and Cleveland pitchers have posted a combined 2.89 ERA over that span. They are 10-2 when Gomes appears. 

Gomes is batting .212 on the year with two homers and four RBI over 33 at-bats.
