Royals catcher Salvador Perez was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to a shin injury.

Perez was initially scheduled to play, but will take a day to recover. He was removed from Friday's game with the injury, and is considered day-to-day. Perez is hitting .228 in 101 at-bats.

The Indians announced several roster moves prior to Saturday's clash against the White Sox, MLB.com reports.

The team placed catcher Yan Gomes on the paternity list and designated infielder Elliot Johnson for assignment. In exchange, the Indians recalled pitcher Nick Hagadone from Triple-A and purchased the contract of catcher George Kottaras from Triple-A.

Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud made his lone hit count in his first game action at Coors Field Thursday night against the Rockies.

d'Arnaud took reliever Chad Bettis deep in the ninth inning for a three-run home run. He finished 1 for 4 with a run scored and three RBI in a 7-4 defeat. He is hitting .211 with two homers and seven RBI in 71 at-bats.

Indians catcher Yan Gomes has been racking up strikeouts. He has struck out at least once in 14 of his last 15 games, totaling 22 strikeouts to just four walks in that span.

Gomes had a fairly quiet first month offensively. He hit three home runs, but totaled just eight RBI and a .250 batting average. He totaled 26 strikeouts to four walks in 25 games.

Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal came up big against the Giants Wednesday.

With his team trailing by two in the bottom of the ninth, Grandal clubbed a solo shot off Tim Hudson. The home run brought the game within one run, and knocked Hudson out of the game. Though the Padres still lost, Grandal played a big role in nearly leading them back. He also doubled earlier in the game.

Grandal finished 2 for 4, with one run scored and one RBI.

Royals catcher Salvador Perez has put together a nice stretch in recent days, capped off by a four-RBI performance Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Perez played a big part in a 10-7 win, as he drove in two runs in each the seventh and eighth innings. He slugged a two-run homer in the seventh and added a two-run double one inning later, the latter of which gave the Royals a lead they would not relinquish.

Perez is now 7 for 13 over the last three games to raise his batting average to .250 on the season. He has two home runs and 10 RBI in 24 games.  

Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal went 0 for 3 at the plate Tuesday while drawing his first career start at first base in his team's 6-0 loss to the Giants.

Grandal saw his first career at first base last season, moving from behind the plate to play the final five innings of a game on May 31 of last year. He got through Tuesday's game just fine at the position but couldn't get anything going on offense. Grandal has hit .236/.333/.345 with one home run and five RBI in 55 at-bats.

Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco will likely need the entirety of his 15 days to recover from a hamstring strain, manager Bryan Price told MLB.com Saturday.

"It just isn't something that's going to be better in three-to-five days, it's probably every bit of 10-14," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "We really can't go without a second full-time catcher."

Mesoraco felt he could have been able to catch and hit after suffering the injury, but said he would have been unable to run the bases with the injury. He said this is the worst hamstring injury he has suffered in his career.

"This one, it's so hard to tell right now because it's so early," Mesoraco said. "In the next couple of days, we'll see how it responds to the treatment and everything. My goal is to be back on the 16th day. I want to be back as soon as I possibly can be. That's my focus at this point."

The Reds officially placed catcher Devin Mesoraco on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring prior to Saturday's game against the Braves.

Mesoraco suffered the injury the previous night against Atlanta while running the bases. He was off to a fast start, slashing .468/.509/.787 with three homers and 13 RBI in 47 at-bats. The team recalled catcher Tucker Barnhart from Triple-A Louisville to replace his roster spot.

Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco was not in the lineup for the game Saturday in Atlanta. He sustained a straining left hamstring Friday against the Braves.
