Mayers (1-2) was charged with a loss and a blown save as a result of giving up four runs on four hits over one-third of an inning against Tampa Bay on Thursday.

Mayers' first outing since returning from a brief stay on the COVID-19 list wasn't pretty, as he gave up a solo home run to Mike Zunino in the seventh inning and was charged with three more runs in the eighth after yielding a hit to each of the three batters he faced. The right-hander has been utilized in high-leverage situations throughout the campaign, and that doesn't figure to change in spite of the fact that Thursday's rough outing pushed his ERA all the way up to 4.91 through 15 appearances.

Green (0-3) took the loss and suffered a blown save against the Astros on Thursday as a result of allowing three runs on two hits and a walk. His only out came by way of strikeout.

Green entered the contest with a shiny 1.02 ERA through 14 appearances, but that number shot all the way up to 2.50 after the rough outing. The big blow was a three-run home run off the bat of Jose Altuve that pushed Houston into a two-run lead. Green has an overall 19:3 K:BB across 18 innings this season, so he should remain a trusted part of New York's bullpen.

Farmer was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Friday.

Farmer had been with the team since Opening Day but struggled through 12 relief appearances. He owns a 12.66 ERA and 2.25 WHIP through 10.2 innings, walking 16.1 percent of opposing batters while striking out just 17.9 percent. As a 30-year-old with a career 5.47 ERA, there's seemingly a good chance he passes through waivers and remains a part of the Tigers' organization.

Abreu was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

The 25-year-old was promoted Wednesday but didn't pitch during his brief time in the majors. Abreu gave up one run over two innings during his previous stint with the big-league club this season.

Crochet (back) was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Crochet wound up with a minimum-length stay on the injured list due to an upper-back strain. He'd given up just one earned run in nine innings prior to suffering the injury, though his 8:5 K:BB is less than convincing. Alex McRae was optioned in a corresponding move.

Sandlin has pitched 4.1 perfect innings with four strikeouts in three appearances.

Sandlin was called up from Cleveland's alternate training site on April 30, and he has yet to allow a baserunner at the major-league level. The 24-year-old right-hander is expected to work mainly in low-leverage roles to begin the season, although he picked up his first hold with a two-inning appearance in Thursday's 4-0 win over Kansas City.

McHugh fanned five of the six batters he faced over two innings in Thursday's victory over the Angels. He didn't factor into the decision.

The righty was sharp Thursday in his first appearance in three weeks, retiring every batter he faced. The 33-year-old threw 17 of his 23 pitches for strikes and now will look to build his stamina back up in order to earn a longer leash from conservative manager Kevin Cash. McHugh will more than likely open for two to three innings in his next appearance.

Pressly allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out two across two innings to earn the save Thursday against the Yankees.

Pressly threw multiple innings for the third time this season, though Thursday's effort was the first time his multi-frame efforts resulted in a save. He allowed an earned run thanks in part to a defensive error behind him but pitched well otherwise. Pressly now has five saves on the season to go along with an excellent 1.93 ERA and 15:3 K:BB across 14 innings.

Ottavino worked around a walk in a scoreless inning to record a save against the Tigers on Thursday.

With the Red Sox leading 12-9 in the ninth, Ottavino nailed down his first save opportunity of the year. Matt Barnes had pitched the last two games and was presumably getting a breather before the weekend. Over 13 innings this season, Ottavino has compiled a 4.15 ERA and 1.54 WHIP.

Rodriguez (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Rodriguez exited Wednesday's contest early after feeling irritation in his right shoulder. The team remains optimistic that he will only be on the injured list for the minimum time.
