Chapman (2-1) blew the save but picked up the win against the Rays on Thursday, giving up two earned runs on three hits over one inning as the Yankees' eventually prevailed 8-4 in 10 innings. He struck out two and walked two.

The normally dominant left-hander melted down in this contest, coughing up a two-run lead for his third blown save before the Yankees rallied in the bottom of the 10th and got him his second win of the season. It was a forgettable outing, but Chapman has remained one of the best closers in baseball during the first half of 2019, as he's still sporting an excellent 1.85 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP and 23 saves through 34 innings.

Manager Rick Renteria said after Thursday's game that Lopez will remain in the starting rotation, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Thursday's outing was another ugly one for Lopez, as he gave up six earned runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings. It was his seventh start this season with five or more runs allowed, pushing his ERA to 6.34, but Renteria said the team will let Lopez work through his issues on the job. The volume gives Lopez some value in certain points formats, but that's about the extent of his appeal at this point.

Barria was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.

Barria had his best outing of the season Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out eight over five innings in a win over the Rangers in Arlington. However, he would not have been available to pitch again before the break, so it only makes sense for the Angels to swap him out for a fresh bullpen arm. Chances are, Barria will get another chance with the big-league team shortly after play resumes.

Law will serve as the opener Thursday against the Red Sox, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Law will look to get three or four outs before turning things over to lefty Thomas Pannone, with Marcus Stroman pushed back due to a pectoral issue. In his three "starts" so far this season, Law has allowed four runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two over 3.1 innings.

Vasquez was outrighted off the Twins' 40-man roster Thursday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

The southpaw will remain with Triple-A Rochester. He recently missed several weeks with a shoulder injury and has struggled to get hitters out when active (6.35 ERA with Rochester). Control has always been a problem, but those issues have reached a new level this year, with Vasquez posting a 21.2 percent walk rate through 17 innings.

Covey (shoulder) is scheduled to make a rehab start Sunday at Triple-A Charlotte, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Covey has made two rehab outings with Charlotte and topped out at 52 pitches in the most recent appearance Monday. In that outing, Covey struck out six over four perfect frames and said his fastball topped out at 98 miles per hour, according to James Fegan of The Athletic. The 27-year-old is set to throw a bullpen session during the All-Star break in Chicago, and if all goes well, he'll slot back into the White Sox rotation shortly after the All-Star break.

Carasiti will work as the Mariners' opening pitcher for Thursday's game against the Cardinals, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Seattle has deployed Carasiti ahead of either Wade LeBlanc or Tommy Milone three times this season, with the right-hander giving up one run across three one-inning outings. He'll likely work the top of the first inning before turning the game over to Milone.

Treinen (2-3), who was activated from the injured list earlier in the day, was charged with the loss in an extra-innings defeat against the Twins on Wednesday, allowing an earned run on a hit and two walks over one-third of an inning. He also recorded a strikeout.

Earlier Wednesday, manager Bob Melvin had expressed his intention of easing Treinen back into action coming off a shoulder injury. That plan was quickly scrapped when the Athletics skipper was forced to deploy the veteran closer in the marathon contest after already having utilized five other relievers behind starter Mike Fiers. Asked to preserve a 3-3 tie upon entering in the 12th inning, Treinen ultimately scuffled through 22 pitches and allowed a go-ahead RBI single to Mitch Garver. Despite the unfavorable result right out of the gate, Melvin probably will stay the course with Treinen as his top closing option for the foreseeable future.

Stanek served as the opener in a loss to the Orioles on Wednesday and generated a perfect first inning in which he recorded two strikeouts.

Stanek could hardly have been more efficient in his latest turn as an opener, needing just 11 pitches, eight of which he threw for strikes, to get through his sole frame. The right-hander has opened July with three scoreless innings across two appearances and now sports a 2.59 ERA and 1.11 WHIP on the campaign.

The Rays optioned Pruitt to Triple-A Durham on Thursday, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.

Pruitt functioned as the primary pitcher behind opener Ryne Stanek in Wednesday's 9-6 loss, limiting the Orioles to three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven over five innings. The heavy workload likely would have kept Pruitt unavailable through the weekend, so the Rays will swap him out in favor of Jake Faria, who will give Tampa Bay a fresh arm out of the bullpen.
