  • Ryan Weber RP | NYY

Mariners' Ryan Weber: Moved to 60-day DL

Weber (biceps) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Friday.

Weber doesn't seem to have made any progress in his rehab program since landing on the disabled list in mid-May, so the Mariners will boot him from the 40-man roster for the time being to allow Tyler Smith and Tyler Cloyd to join the big-league roster. No timetable for Weber's return has come forth yet, but he's now ineligible to return from the disabled list until July 14.

  • Casey Lawrence RP | SEA

Mariners' Casey Lawrence: Shuttled back to minors

Lawrence was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.

Lawrence was heavily used this past week, most recently firing five innings Thursday against Colorado. Now that he's likely to be unavailable for a couple of days, the Mariners opted to send him back to the minors in order to bring fresh arms up to Seattle. Despite the demotion, Lawrence's strong showing Thursday should help him find his way back up to the big leagues whenever more bullpen depth is needed.

Mariners' Casey Lawrence: Racks up nine strikeouts in long relief

Lawrence notched nine strikeouts over a five-inning stint in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Rockies, surrendering an earned run on three hits and three walks.

On the heels of firing a solid 2.2 innings at Coors Field on Tuesday, Lawrence essentially turned in a start Thursday, totaling 86 pitches. The 29-year-old was outstanding in terms of avoiding contact, although his control issues caused his pitch count to rise quickly relative to his amount of time on the mound. Lawrence's performance was certainly a revelation, however, and given the improving but still shorthanded state of the Mariners starting rotation -- as well as Yovani Gallardo's ongoing struggles -- a spot start could certainly be a possibility in the near future.

  • Brian Johnson RP | BOS

Red Sox's Brian Johnson: Leading candidate to fill rotation vacancy

Johnson is expected to be added to the major-league rotation to replace the injured Eduardo Rodriguez (knee), Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports.

The Red Sox can get by without a fifth starter until June 10, but all signs seem to be pointing toward Johnson claiming that spot when it comes around. Brandon Workman will fill the roster spot for now to provide some bullpen help, but Johnson will likely come up and replace him whenever Boston wants to get back to a five-man rotation. The 26-year-old southpaw holds a 2.82 ERA in seven starts with the PawSox, and he's been able to hold his own in the majors as well, as his 2.57 ERA in two big-league starts suggests.

  • Hunter Harvey RP | CHC

Orioles' Hunter Harvey: To start in rookie ball

Harvey (elbow) will start his season in low-level affiliated games, possibly in the Gulf Coast League, and will gradually climb the organizational ladder, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.

He is roughly 10 months removed from Tommy John surgery, and therefore not particularly close to game action. However, it sounds like he will be able to get some action against rookie level hitters in early July, and then possibly climb to a full-season league before the end of the year. Once one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, Harvey has dealt with so many arm injuries in recent years that the Orioles won't be ready to take the training wheels off until 2018 at the earliest.

  • Jose Leclerc RP | SD

Rangers' Jose Leclerc: Returns from injury Friday

Leclerc (finger) was activated from the disabled list Friday.

Leclerc began his DL stint in early May, and after experiencing a couple of setbacks in his recovery, he's finally ready to return to the Rangers' bullpen. He'll resume his normal high-leverage role for Texas as he looks to improve upon his impressive 2.31 ERA and 13.9 K/9. To make room for him on the active roster, former closer Sam Dyson was designated for assignment.

  • Bo Schultz RP | PIT

Blue Jays' Bo Schultz: Staying positive during rehab

Schultz (elbow) said via Twitter that he's working hard to return quickly and come back "stronger than ever."

The right-handed reliever underwent Tommy John surgery March 29. Schultz is working his way through the long recovery process, but appears optimistic about his progress. He managed a 3.56 ERA and tidy 1.07 WHIP through 31 games for the Jays in 2015, but faltered last year and spent most of the campaign in the minors.

  • Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Making progress rehabbing shoulder

Chapman (shoulder) threw from 100 feet on flat ground Thursday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Chapman only made 15 throws Thursday, but was able to work his way up to 100-foot tosses. As long as Chapman continues making such progress, the Yankees are aiming to have him begin working in the bullpen next week. Once the hard-throwing southpaw begins participating in bullpen sessions, a timeframe for his return should become clear.

  • Tigers' Warwick Saupold: Grabs win Wednesday

Saupold (1-0) picked up the win Wednesday against the Royals. He pitched three scoreless innings of relief and allowed just one hit.

Starter Matt Boyd was ineffective and lasted just 3.2 innings, which got Saupold into the game early. The Australian right-hander was solid as a starter in the minors, posting a 2.90 ERA across seven starts. He figures to serve in a long-relief role moving forward and could grab a few more wins here and there.

  • Austin Pruitt RP | TEX

Rays' Austin Pruitt: Notches win in return to majors

Pruitt (4-1) fired two scoreless innings in Wednesday's 7-5 extra-inning win over the Rangers, notching three strikeouts.

The 27-year-old right-hander had been recalled from Triple-A Durham earlier Wednesday and was thrown right into the fire in a high-leverage situation. Pruitt impressively fired 16 of 24 pitches for strikes over his two frames, bouncing back nicely after having surrendered nine runs (seven earned) in the six innings that encompassed his last three appearances before being sent down to the Bulls back on May 9.
