  • Tony Zych RP | NYY

Mariners' Tony Zych: Suffers setback in recovery

Zych (shoulder) suffered a setback last week, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

His timetable had been pushed back once already, and Zych is now without any sort of clear timetable following the setback. He was forced to shut down his throwing program, just as he was about to start throwing bullpen sessions, but is expected to pick up a baseball later in the week.

  • Carson Smith RP | BOS

Red Sox's Carson Smith: Placed on 60-day DL

Smith (forearm) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Tuesday.

The move was essentially a formality, as Smith has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season -- and likely the start of the 2017 season -- after undergoing Tommy John surgery. The transaction clears up a space on Boston's 40-man roster, but there has yet to be a corresponding move.

  • Austin Adams RP | WAS

Indians' Austin Adams: Sent down Tuesday

Adams was sent down to the minors Tuesday, Nick Camino of WTAM reports.

Adams has proven to be a solid option in Cleveland's bullpen, working to a 2.35 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 7.2 innings, but the club needed to clear room on the major league roster to make way for Tuesday's starter Cody Anderson. The reliever will head back to Triple-A Columbus, but he'll likely get another chance in the majors at some point this season.

  • Pat Venditte RP | LAD

Blue Jays' Pat Venditte: Recalled to majors Tuesday

Venditte was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports.

Venditte hasn't seen much of a difference in performance this season between the majors and the minors in terms of ERA, but the reliever has struck out 23 in 13 innings compared to just four walks at the Triple-A level. The switch pitcher will likely be deployed in lower-leverage situations until he can show consistent success at the big league level. Infielder Matt Dominguez was designated for assignment in a corresponding roster move.

  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Rays' Alex Colome: Remains perfect with 16th save

Colome picked up his 16th save with a clean inning in Monday's win over Arizona.

Colome continues to make his case to remain Tampa Bay's closer even after Brad Boxberger returns from his oblique injury. He is 16-for-16 in save opportunities and lowered his ERA to 1.04 with another scoreless inning Monday. His 34:6 K:BB is just as elite and he is inducing twice as many groundballs as flyballs. It's tough to find a hole in Colome's game right now as he continues to lock it down for the Rays.

  • Ken Giles RP | ATL

Astros' Ken Giles: Takes loss in ninth inning appearance Monday

Giles (0-3) allowed a run on two hits over two-thirds of an inning as he took the loss Monday against the Rangers.

Giles is supposedly in the mix for save opportunities in the wake of Luke Gregerson's struggles and Houston's move to a closer-by-committee situation. Outings like these, however, won't help his cause. Giles has still been nasty this year -- he recorded his 33rd strikeout in just 25 innings Monday night. But he's now given up 31 hits, and with an ERA now up to 5.76, it's hard to imagine the Astros won't give their save opportunities to a hotter hand like Will Harris (0.34 ERA in 26.2 innings).

  • Michael Fulmer RP | NYY

Tigers' Michael Fulmer: Throws six shutout innings in win over Toronto

Fulmer (6-1) tossed six shutout innings, allowing two hits and three walks with five strikeouts in Monday's win over the Blue Jays.

Fulmer had a slow start to the season with a 6.52 ERA through his first four starts, but he has been red hot since then. He hasn't allowed a run since the sixth inning in his May 21 start against the Rays and has gone at least six innings in four straight outings. He has 27 strikeouts against just seven walks in 28.1 innings over those four starts, showing the talent that made him a first-round pick and top-100 prospect in the Mets system. Fulmer's ERA is down to 2.83, and he's locked himself into a spot in Detroit's rotation following a shaky beginning to his MLB career.

  • Michael Fulmer RP | NYY

Tigers' Michael Fulmer: Wins fourth straight in another dominant performance

Fulmer won his fourth straight game Monday in a 11-0 win over the Blue Jays. He lasted six-plus innings for the fourth straight game and has been on the mound for 22.1 scoreless innings.

Fulmer pitched 6.0 innings, walked three and struck out five. He fired 88 pitches, 53 for strikes, and had guys off-balance all night long as he mixed up his 90 mph fastball, wipeout slider and sneaky changeup. Manager Brad Ausmus pulled Fulmer after six innings to rest him as the game was well in hand at that point. The right-hander has been dominant of late and hasn't allowed a run since May 21. Don't look now, but Fulmer is now squarely in the conversation for AL Rookie of the Year.

  • White Sox's Phillippe Aumont: Retires from professional baseball

Aumont has retired from professional baseball.

Once a top prospect for the Mariners and then the Phillies, the lanky righty never put it together in the majors, finishing his career with a 6.80 ERA and 1.99 WHIP over 46 appearances (one start) with the Phillies. After posting a 12.27 ERA over 10 games for Triple-A Charlotte in the White Sox's organization, he elected to call it quits at age 27.

  • Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Unlikely to pitch Monday

Chapman is not expected to pitch in Monday's game against the Angels, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports.

Chapman has pitched each of the last two days, so manager Joe Girardi is likely just exercising caution in keeping his primary closer fresh. With Chapman unavailable, Andrew Miller is expected to serve as the Yankees' closer, should the situation call for one.
