  • Ken Giles RP | ATL

Astros' Ken Giles: Part of closer-by-committee

Astros manager A.J. Hinch said Giles "will get a look" in the ninth inning with Luke Gregerson getting a "mental and physical break from the (closer) role," the Houston Chronicle reports.

Many expected Giles to open 2016 as the Astros' closer after the team traded away five players, including Vince Velasquez and Mark Appel, to acquire him in the offseason. The 25-year-old earned his first save with Houston on May 26, but Will Harris (0.34 ERA) got the call in the ninth inning Sunday and converted his first opportunity of the season. Only time will tell whether this plays out as a committee situation or one reliever takes the role and runs with it.

  • Jesse Chavez RP | ATL

Blue Jays' Jesse Chavez: Proving to be reliable arm out of Jays pen

Since returning from a three-game suspension for his role in the May 15 brawl with the Rangers, Chavez has allowed an earned run in just one of his five appearances.

Chavez holds a 3.20 ERA through 20 appearances this season and has three holds to go along with one blown save. The Jays' offense and bullpen has been improved of late, and Chavez should see his fair share of opportunities. He's made four appearances (five innings) over the team's past eight games.

  • Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Blows first save of season

Chapman allowed a pair of hits in just 0.2 innings of work to blow his first save of the season Sunday versus the Orioles.

The flame-throwing lefty was called upon with two men on and one out in the eight inning, and he proceeded to allow three runs to cross, with the aid of a Jacoby Ellsbury error. Despite Sunday's hiccup, Chapman still has a 2.25 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP, suggesting that he will bounce back sooner rather than later.

  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Rays' Alex Colome: Earns save with spotless inning

Colome earned his 15th save of the season Sunday versus the Twins, striking out one in a spotless ninth inning.

Colome has been nothing short of superb this season, as he remains perfect in converting save opportunities and has a stellar 1.08 ERA to go with a 0.88 WHIP. With Brad Boxberger (oblique) on the disabled list again for an extended period of time, Colome is locked in as the Rays' closer and seems increasingly likely to hold onto the gig for the remainder of the year due to his excellent work thus far.

  • Tyler Duffey RP | KC

Twins' Tyler Duffey: Falls victim to long-ball versus Rays

Duffey allowed four runs while striking out eight and walking two across 5.2 innings Sunday versus the Rays. He did not factor into the decision.

Duffey's undoing came via the long-ball Sunday, as all four runs he allowed came from home runs, although it was his first time this year allowing multiple balls to leave the yard. Duffey's 7.94 ERA over his last four starts has seen his seasonal mark balloon to 4.79, although his 8.42 K/9 has been a pleasant surprise. Regardless, Duffey will need to pick it up if he wishes to remain in the starting rotation and will have the opportunity to do so Saturday at the Red Sox.

  • Angels' Hector Santiago: Pulled after four innings versus Pirates

Santiago lasted just four innings in Sunday's start versus the Pirates after allowing three runs on four hits and four walks. He struck out four and did not factor into the decision.

The left-hander was a bit unlucky Sunday, as he threw 61 percent of his pitches for strikes and did not allow an extra-base hit, but he bunched up baserunners in the second and third innings, when all of the damage against him was done. Santiago has been in a downward spiral of late, with a 10.34 ERA in his last four starts, and his strong start to the season is but a distant memory at this point. He'll look to right the ship Friday versus the Indians.

  • Liam Hendriks RP | CHC

Athletics' Liam Hendriks: Faces hitters Saturday

Manager Bob Melvin said Hendriks (elbow) faced hitters Saturday and "felt great," MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.

Hendriks has been on the DL for a little under a month due to the sore elbow, but he seems to be trending in the right direction. The A's could clear him to head out on a rehab assignment soon.

  • Chris Lee RP | BAL

Orioles' Chris Lee: Placed on 7-day DL

Lee was placed on the 7-day DL at Double-A Bowie on Sunday due to a lat strain, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.

Lee had been scratched from two straight starts due to the issue, so Bowie decided it was best to temporarily deactivate him in order to add another healthy pitcher. The 23-year-old lefty, who was added to the Orioles' 40-man roster this offseason, has a 2.98 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 51.1 innings, but has struck out only 19 batters.

  • Tony Zych RP | NYY

Mariners' Tony Zych: Unlikely to return until late June

Zych (shoulder) is unlikely to rejoin the Mariners until at least late June, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Zych is scheduled to begin throwing off a mound this week, but since he's been sidelined since early May with rotator cuff tendinitis, the rehab process will be fairly extensive. Once he demonstrates he's healthy, Zych should claim a meaningful setup role ahead of closer Steve Cishek.

  • Collin McHugh RP | ATL

Astros' Collin McHugh: Doesn't factor in decision against A's on Saturday

McHugh didn't factor into the decision against the A's on Saturday, giving up five hits, four earned runs and three walks over 5.1 innings. He also struck out five.

The 28-year-old couldn't quite produce an outing the caliber of his complete-game effort versus the D-backs on May 30, but did enough to keep the Astros in the game after some early trouble. McHugh surrendered a two-run double to Chris Coghlan and a sacrifice fly to Josh Phegley in the second inning, before seeing his club tie the score back up in the home half of the frame. Otherwise, McHugh held the A's scoreless and was pulled after throwing 100 pitches in just over five innings. He'll try to get back in the win column at Globe Life Park on Thursday versus the Rangers.
