Rea is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Yankees in The Bronx.

Rea will make a second straight turn through the rotation after he struck out six while allowing two runs over 4.1 innings in a no-decision against the Phillies this past Saturday, when he stepped in as the Brewers' new No. 5 starter in place of the injured Adrian Houser (elbow). Even if Houser isn't ready to pitch by the next time his turn in the rotation comes up, Rea may need a strong showing Thursday to ensure he makes another start. Julio Teheran (hip) tossed five scoreless innings in his most recent rehab start Tuesday at Triple-A Nashville and could be a candidate to replace Rea as the big club's No. 5 starter if the latter struggles against the Yankees.

Little's contract was purchased from Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register reports.

Little, 23, began the season at High-A South Bend but has made it all the way up to the majors after posting a 2.12 ERA and 105:42 K:BB over 63.2 innings across three levels. The hard-throwing lefty reliever will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game.

Mikolas (7-10) picked up the win in Tuesday's 10-6 victory over Atlanta, giving up three runs on eight hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out two.

All three Atlanta runs came on solo shots, but Mikolas otherwise kept the NL East leaders off the board and got more than enough run support from the Cardinals. The quality start was his 12th of the season, but since the All-Star break the right-hander has stumbled to a 5.69 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 34:11 K:BB through 55.1 innings, largely thanks to 10 homers allowed. He could have a hard time keeping the ball in the park again in his next outing, which is likely to come this weekend in Cincinnati.

Corbin (9-13) took the loss Tuesday as the Nationals were downed 11-5 by the Mets, coughing up eight runs on seven hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over four innings. He struck out two.

A four-run first inning punctuated by a three-run homer off Francisco Alvarez's bat set the tone for Corbin's night. The veteran lefty got the hook after 83 pitches (53 strikes) and he's served up multiple long balls in four of his last seven starts, stumbling to a 5.92 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 26:13 K:BB through 38 innings over that stretch. With the Nationals playing out the string, Corbin will remain in the rotation, but he's got little fantasy appeal heading into his next outing, likely to come early next week in Pittsburgh.

Quintana (2-5) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over seven innings in an 11-5 victory over the Nationals. He struck out four.

The veteran southpaw gave up back-to-back hits to lead off the game, with Jacob Young crossing the plate after his double, but Quintana slammed the door on the Nats the rest of the way and didn't let another runner even get into scoring position. The 34-year-old has been impressive since making his season debut in late July after recovering from surgery this spring to repair a stress fracture in his ribcage, delivering quality starts in seven of his last eight outings. Quintana is next set to take the mound early next week in a home series against the Diamondbacks.

Greene was scheduled to fly from San Francisco to Cincinnati on Tuesday and could be activated from the COVID-19-related injured list this weekend, MLB.com reports.

Greene was deactivated shortly after making his last start Aug. 30 while the Reds were in San Francisco. Once he rejoins the Reds, the team will see if Greene is fit to pitch after the week-long layoff. The hope is that Greene can return to the mound at some point during the weekend series at home against the Cardinals.

Nelson has worked to improve his slider during his time in the minors, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Nelson's slider has shown progress over his last few starts at Triple-A Reno, with Arizona pitching coach Brent Strom noting that the right-hander is "locating it more" and "hasn't made as many mistakes with it." Nelson has made four starts for Reno since his demotion in mid-August, pitching to a respectable 3.74 ERA. He had been part of the Diamondbacks rotation for the first four-and-a-half months of the season, posting a 5.74 ERA in 24 starts. Despite a mid-90s fastball, Nelson struggled to miss bats, and the organization is hoping an improved slider will help. If the club reaches down to the minors for a starter Thursday, Nelson, whose last outing was Sept. 2, is the most likely candidate to fill the opening. Arizona needs a starter after it demoted Slade Cecconi on Sunday.

Pfaadt (1-8) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four over 3.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Rockies.

Pfaadt had pitched well at times in August, but he's now given up nine runs (eight earned) over 7.2 innings across his last two starts. The rookie right-hander threw just 70 pitches (45 strikes) in Tuesday's poor outing. He's at a 6.27 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 68:24 K:BB through 74.2 innings across 15 starts overall. Pfaadt is lined up for a road start versus the Cubs over the weekend.

Freeland (6-14) allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two over six innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Diamondbacks.

Freeland was hit hard at home versus Atlanta in his last start, but he was able to bounce back in this outing. This was the first time he'd walked multiple batters in a start since July 9. The southpaw is now at a 5.09 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 91:41 K:BB through 146.2 innings over 27 starts this season. Freeland is projected for a home start versus the Cubs next week.

Lorenzen (8-9) allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and three walks while striking out one over six innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Padres.

Lorenzen and Pedro Avila traded zeroes for the first three frames, but the Padres' offense came to life after that. Lorenzen was very good in his first two starts for the Phillies, but he's allowed 22 runs (19 earned) over his last four outings, spanning 21 innings. The right-hander is at a 3.95 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 104:41 K:BB through 143.2 innings across 24 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start at home in a difficult matchup versus Atlanta.
