  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Giants' Kevin Gausman: Dealing with elbow tightness

Gausman won't start Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Padres due to right elbow tightness, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, it has yet to be determined if a trip to the injured list is necessary, and Gausman is set to undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. The Giants have scheduled off days Monday and Thursday, so they won't need the full complement of the starting rotation until after next weekend. Logan Webb will take the mound in the nightcap for San Francisco.

  • Joey Lucchesi RP | LAA

Padres' Joey Lucchesi: Recalled for doubleheader

Lucchesi was recalled from the alternate training site for Sunday's doubleheader against the Giants.

The 27-year-old will join the Friars as the 29th man for the twin bill. Lucchesi has two starts under his belt this season and has allowed five runs on 11 hits with a 5:2 K:BB over 5.1 innings, though he figures to work out of the bulllpen Sunday.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Back from injured list

Matz (shoulder) was activated off the 10-day injured list Sunday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

The left-hander landed on the injured list at the end of August with shoulder discomfort, and he'll now rejoin the team after recovering for the past two weeks. Matz began the season as a starter before shifting to the bullpen and has a 8.63 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 25:9 K:BB over 24 innings.

  • Mets' Michael Wacha: Available as reliever

Wacha is available out of the bullpen Sunday against the Blue Jays, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.

The 29-year-old lined up to start Tuesday at Philadelphia, but New York will instead push up the rest of the rotation thanks to Monday's scheduled off day. Wacha could return to the rotation when the Mets need a fifth starter next weekend against the Braves.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Reds' Sonny Gray: Out with back strain

Gray was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a right mid-back strain, retroactive to Sept. 11.

The 30-year-old surrendered five runs over 3.1 innings during his last start Thursday, and he was apparently battling the back issue during the outing. It's unclear how long Gray is expected to be sidelined, but he'll be eligible to be reinstated Sept. 21.

  • Mitch Keller SP | PIT

Pirates' Mitch Keller: Rejoining rotation Monday

The Pirates will activate Keller (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Monday to start one game of the team's doubleheader with the Reds, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Keller reported no pain in his strained left oblique coming out of a three-inning live batting practice session a few days ago, so he's ready to make his first appearance since Aug. 1. Due to the extended layoff, Keller likely won't be asked to work especially deep into Monday's contest, which renders him rather unappealing for DFS contests. Keller may have more intrigue in season-long formats, as he would likely be in line to make his second start of the week Sept. 19 or Sept. 20 versus the Cardinals.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Contract selected by Miami

Garrett had his contract selected by the Marlins on Sunday and will serve as the 29th man for the doubleheader against the Phillies.

The 23-year-old could make his major-league debut during Sunday's twin bill, though he'll likely be headed to the alternate training site after the second game. Garrett spent most of 2019 at High-A Jupiter and had a 3.34 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 118:37 K:BB over 105 innings.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Starting matinee Sunday

Cueto will start Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Padres, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Cueto was scheduled to start Friday before the game was postponed due to a positive test for COVID-19 from the Giants, but that result has since been declared a false positive. The veteran right-hander has a 4.56 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 46:19 K:BB through 47.1 innings this season.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Braves' Cole Hamels: Starting Wednesday vs. O's

Hamels (triceps) is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

He threw three simulated innings Friday in his final tune up, so it would be risky to expect Hamels to go deep enough in this start to qualify for the win. By their own admission, the Braves are essentially letting Hamels get his rehab starts in during games that count down the stretch in order to get him ready for the postseason. He has been sidelined all year with shoulder and triceps injuries.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Starting matinee Sunday

Clevinger will start Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Giants.

The first two games of the series were postponed after the Giants produced a positive test for COVID-19, but the two sides will reconvene Sunday after the subsequent rounds of testing illustrated it was a false positive. Clevinger has allowed six runs on 12 hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks over 11 frames in his first two starts with the Padres. Garrett Richards will receive the start in Game 2.
