Marcus Stroman SP | NYY
Mets' Marcus Stroman: Throwing 'full tilt'
Manager Luis Rojas said Stroman (calf) is throwing bullpen sessions "full tilt," Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.
This is encouraging news for Stroman, who is working his way back from a muscle tear in his left calf. That said, he's still apparently unable to sprint, so he'll need to clear that hurdle -- and submit a clean MRI, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com -- before he's able to rejoin the rotation. In the meantime, look for David Peterson to remain in the rotation in place of Stroman.

Jacob deGrom SP | TEX
Mets' Jacob deGrom: Approaching full workload
DeGrom is expected to throw between 80 and 100 pitches Wednesday against the Red Sox, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
DeGrom looked as good as ever Opening Day against Atlanta, striking out eight and allowing just one hit and one walk over five scoreless innings, though he only threw 72 pitches after back soreness derailed his preseason buildup. His pitch count will remain limited Wednesday, though not by very much, and he'll likely be able to handle a full workload by his third start of the year.

Stephen Strasburg SP | WAS
Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Throwing again Wednesday
Strasburg (hand) is scheduled to throw from 75-80 feet Wednesday, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.
Strasburg, who is dealing with nerve irritation in his throwing hand, is set to ramp things up Wednesday after throwing at about 75 percent Tuesday. If the right-hander feels good during Wednesday's session, he could be cleared to throw a side session before the end of the week. In the meantime, Erick Fedde will make another start in place of Strasburg on Thursday.

Aaron Nola SP | PHI
Phillies' Aaron Nola: Won't start before Saturday
Nola won't start before Saturday at the earliest, with all Phillies games prior to that date postponed, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
After starting Friday on Opening Day, Nola would have lined up to start Wednesday against the Yankees, but the four-game series was postponed while MLB waits to see whether or not the Phillies have been caught up in the Marlins' coronavirus outbreak that has seen approximately half of Miami's active roster test positive for the virus. As of Wednesday, no member of the Phillies has tested positive, but the virus can sometimes take a few days to show up in test results. The first game of the Phillies' weekend series against the Blue Jays was postponed from Friday and moved to part of what will now be a doubleheader Saturday, when Nola will presumably make his next start.

Josiah Gray RP | WAS
Dodgers' Josiah Gray: Named candidate to start Friday
Gray is an option to start Friday against Arizona, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
The Dodgers are in need of a starter for Friday's road contest due to Alex Wood's (shoulder) placement on the 10-day injured list, and manager Dave Roberts mentioned Gray as one of four candidates to fill the role. Gray has yet to pitch beyond Double-A, but he has impressed while moving rapidly through three minor-league levels in his two seasons as a professional.

Tony Gonsolin RP | KC
Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Candidate for Friday's start
Gonsolin is being considered to start at Arizona on Friday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
With Alex Wood (shoulder) moved to the 10-day injured list Tuesday, the Dodgers have a hole in their rotation for Friday's road tilt against the Diamondbacks. Manager Dave Roberts named four candidates to fill in as a starter, and Gonsolin may be the favorite given that he is the only pitcher among the group with major-league experience. The right-hander fared well in 40 innings with the Dodgers last season, going 4-2 with a 2.93 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 37:15 K:BB.

Sandy Alcantara SP | MIA
Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Positive for COVID-19
Alcantara is among the 15 Miami players who has recently tested positive for COVID-19 amid a team-wide outbreak, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Along with Alcantara, Garrett Cooper, Jose Urena, Miguel Rojas, Harold Ramirez and Jorge Alfaro are the other known players to have tested positive for the coronavirus in the wake of the team's season-opening series in Philadelphia last weekend. Major League Baseball has since canceled all Marlins games this week, but Alcantara can't be considered a lock to be cleared to play when Miami returns to action Aug. 4 versus the Phillies. Alcantara previously submitted a dominant outing in his season debut in Philadelphia last Friday, covering 6.2 innings and allowing just two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks while whiffing seven.

Zach Davies SP | WAS
Padres' Zach Davies: Earns win in Padres debut
Davies (1-0) was charged with three runs (two earned) on five hits over five innings in a win over the Giants on Tuesday. He struck out five and did not issue a walk.
After five seasons in Milwaukee, Davies joined the Padres this past winter as part of the Trent Grisham-Luis Urias deal. He pitched well enough to get the win in his team debut, though the Giants' lineup is one of the worst in baseball and this was in San Francisco, so it's hard to get too excited about this performance. Davies is a finesse pitcher who throws 88 mph with a career K/9 a little over 6.0; he will need to be at the very top of his game if he's to achieve a similar result this weekend in Colorado.

Antonio Senzatela RP | MIL
Rockies' Antonio Senzatela: Beats A's in Oakland
Senzatela (1-0) allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three over five innings in a win over the A's on Tuesday.
There was some talk in summer camp of Senzatela simplifying his delivery and impressing with sharper secondary stuff. He was not a completely new pitcher in his 2020 debut -- Senzatela only induced five swinging strikes on 86 pitches -- but a road win in Oakland qualifies as a step in the right direction after he had a 6.71 ERA last season. We'll see what Senzatela can do this weekend at home against the Padres.

Kwang Hyun Kim SP | STL
Cardinals' Kwang-Hyun Kim: Staying in bullpen for now
Kim will remain in the closer role for the time being irrespective of the vacancy in the starting rotation created by the forearm injury to Miles Mikolas, and despite Giovanny Gallegos' activation Tuesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. "We made a move to put [Kim] in the back end of the bullpen," manager Mike Shildt said. "We did that because we have confidence in him, and [Daniel] Ponce [de Leon] is built up and ready to take that responsibility. So there's a number of factors into it, but that's the way we went."
Kim had been a finalist for the fifth starter's spot that went to Carlos Martinez, but even with Mikolas now out for the season, the first-year Cardinal will remain in a relief role, and the highest-leverage one at that despite Gallegos' availability. The southpaw has been used just once this season, converting a save chance Opening Night against the Pirates despite allowing an earned run on two hits. Despite the commitment to Kim for the moment, Shildt also reminded reporters that everything in the baseball world is "literally day by day right now" and that he therefore couldn't be certain how the team's starting rotation would evolve in coming weeks.
