  • Zac Gallen SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Fires seven shutout frames

Gallen (3-4) threw a one-hitter across seven scoreless innings, striking out eight batters and walking one to earn the win against the Padres on Wednesday.

The right-hander flirted with a no-hitter into the seventh inning, when Manny Machado broke it up with a single. Otherwise, Gallen was lights out, throwing 59 of 90 pitches for strikes as the Diamondbacks earned their ninth win in 10 games while inching closer in the wild-card race. Gallen snapped his own four-start winless streak, posting his first victory since August 7 against the Phillies when he tossed five scoreless frames and allowed just one hit in his Arizona debut. Since then, the 24-year-old rookie has whiffed 39 batters across 32 innings. He'll look to defend a solid 2.50 ERA and 1.23 WHIP during a road contest against the Mets on Tuesday.

  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Quality start in no-decision

Williams didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Marlins, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk over six innings while striking out six.

It's the right-hander's third straight quality start, and his 11th of the season overall. Williams will carry a 5.16 ERA and 96:34 K:BB through 125.2 innings into his next outing Monday in San Francisco.

  • Jose Urena SP | LAA

Marlins' Jose Urena: Blows first save

Urena (4-8) gave up three runs on three hits and a walk without recording an out in the ninth inning Wednesday to get charged with his first blown save and take the loss against the Pirates.

Elias Diaz led off the inning with a solo shot, and Bryan Reynolds ended the disastrous outing for Urena with a walkoff two-run single. The right-hander is still adjusting to working out of the bullpen and was pitching on consecutive nights for the first time. The Marlins are likely to give him a long leash, but after two solid appearances, Urena's conversion to closer hit a major bump.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Hit hard by Reds

Nola didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to the Reds, giving up five runs on five hits and three walks over four innings while striking out six.

Four of the five hits off Nola went for extra bases, including a solo shot by Joey Votto in the first inning. The right-hander will take a 3.63 ERA and 200:67 K:BB through 178.2 innings into his next start Monday, at home against Atlanta.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Tabbed to start Sunday

Buehler is scheduled to start Sunday's series finale against the Giants, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Buehler served up six runs to the Rockies on Monday and lined up to pitch Tuesday in Baltimore, but the Dodgers will shift their rotation plans since they have scheduled off days immediately before and after the three-game set against San Francisco. The 25-year-old will look to grab his third straight win, and 13th overall, versus the Giants at home.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Not starting Friday

Gonsolin is available out of the bullpen Wednesday and won't start Friday's game against the Giants, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Gonsolin isn't making an official move to the bullpen as he's still in play to start Saturday -- assuming he doesn't pitch Wednesday -- but the Dodgers will remain flexible with their starting rotation since the three-game set versus San Francisco is bookended by scheduled off days. The 25-year-old has a 2.89 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 22:6 K:BB over his first six major-league outings.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Set to start Friday

Kershaw will take the mound in Friday's series opener against the Giants, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Kershaw was originally slated to start Saturday on six days rest, but he'll instead have his outing pushed up one day. The veteran left-hander allowed more than four earned runs for the first time all season in his last start, and he'll look to get back on track at home against division-rival San Francisco.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Throwing sim game Friday

Hill (forearm) is scheduled to throw a 30-pitch, two-inning simulated game Friday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Hill will face live batters for the first time since going down with the left forearm strain in mid-June. Assuming the veteran left-hander avoids a setback, he could rejoin the Dodgers and pitch out of the bullpen next week, per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Mets' Zack Wheeler: Picks up win against Nats

Wheeler (10-7) allowed one run on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts across five innings while earning a victory against the Nationals on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old has been inconsistent at times this season, but he's yielded just one run in each of his last two outings. It might not last, though, as Wheeler has been a bit fortunate, only allowing two runs in his last 11 innings despite 19 baserunners. Owners will take it for now, though, as Wheeler has improved his overall numbers -- a 4.33 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 163 strikeouts in 166.1 innings this season. He will face the the Diamondbacks at home in his next outing Tuesday.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Bullpen scheduled for this weekend

Cueto (elbow) is planning to throw a bullpen session this weekend, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Cueto was on the verge of joining the Giants' rotation, but he felt soreness in his upper back during his final rehab start and in a Tuesday bullpen session, so he will remain on the recovery track for now. Manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that Cueto could start during next week's homestand if his bullpen session goes well.
