  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Back in big leagues

Gonsolin was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday.

Gonsolin had only just been sent down to Triple-A on Wednesday. He's allowed to return just two days later with Hyun-Jin Ryu (neck) landing on the injured list. Gonsolin has made two appearances for the Dodgers this season, allowing seven runs (five earned) in eight innings of work.

  • Dustin May SP | MIL

Dodgers' Dustin May: Promoted ahead of start

May's contract was selected as expected ahead of his scheduled big-league debut Friday against the Padres.

The 21-year-old made just five starts at the Triple-A level before earning his second promotion of the year. In 20 starts across the two highest levels of the minors this season, May owns a 3.37 ERA, and his 24.6 percent strikeout rate and 6.5 percent walk rate are strong numbers. He has the potential to be a future mid-rotation starter or better, with good command backing up an excellent fastball/slider combo and two other potentially viable off-speed pitches.

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Out with neck soreness

Ryu was placed on the 10-day injured list with neck soreness Friday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

The severity of the issue is not yet clear. Ryu certainly hasn't pitched like an injured pitcher of late, allowing just two earned runs over his last five starts combined. The move may be simply a way for the Dodgers to limit his innings down the stretch given their 16-game lead in the NL West.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Start pushed back

Ray will start Saturday against the Nationals rather than Friday as originally scheduled, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

No reason for the change has been given, and Ray doesn't appear to be injured, otherwise he would have been skipped entirely. Alex Young starts Friday in his place.

  • Nick Lodolo SP | CIN

Reds' Nick Lodolo: Reaches innings limit

Lodolo has reached his innings limit and will not pitch again this season, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Lodolo threw 103 innings with TCU prior to being drafted seventh overall by the Reds. He threw just 18.1 innings as a professional and looked excellent, posting a 2.45 ERA and a ridiculous 30:0 K:BB. The lefty will face some more challenging tests in his first full pro season next year.

  • Brewers' Adrian Houser: Gets another turn

Houser will make his next start Sunday against the Cubs, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Houser was added to the rotation out of necessity earlier this week and delivered perhaps the best of his seven starts this season, giving up one run on three hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings in a no-decision. He'll be rewarded with another turn as a result, though he'll remain one of the pitchers most at risk of losing his starting job once Jhoulys Chacin (lat) returns from the 10-day injured list, likely later in August.

  • Jack Flaherty SP | DET

Cardinals' Jack Flaherty: Seven strong innings

Flaherty (5-6) tossed seven scoreless innings Thursday to earn the win over the Cubs, allowing just one hit and two walks with nine strikeouts.

Flaherty displayed dazzling stuff in this one, throwing 66 percent of his pitches for strikes as he reached nine punchouts for the second straight outing. He retired 13 of the first 14 hitters he faced and supported his strikeout totals with six groundball outs as well. Flaherty has been superb over his last five starts, allowing just four earned runs while posting a 39:9 K:BB across 31.1 innings. He'll take a quickly improving 3.93 ERA into next week's road start against the Dodgers.

  • Joey Lucchesi RP | LAA

Padres' Joey Lucchesi: Saddled with loss

Lucchesi (7-7) was charged with the loss Thursday at Dodger Stadium after surrendering four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four over 5.2 innings.

Lucchesi gave up a solo home run to Cody Bellinger in the second inning and kept the Dodgers in check until the sixth, when he loaded the bases following a single and a pair of walks. The southpaw was then pulled after his 99th pitch and replaced by Trey Wingenter, who scored all three of Lucchesi's baserunners by giving up a grand slam to Will Smith. Lucchesi has struggled with issuing free passes lately, walking 12 batters over last four starts. The 26-year-old will look to improve upon a 4.23 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 111:38 K:BB during a Wednesday contest at Seattle.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Walks five in 10th win

Kershaw (10-2) picked up the win Thursday after holding the Padres to two runs on six hits and five walks while striking out five over six innings.

Kershaw gave up a solo homer to Hunter Renfroe in the second inning and an RBI single to Manny Machado in the third while getting another solid day of run support from his offense to improve his career record against the Padres to 20-6. Meanwhile, the 31-year-old threw his 2,397th career strikeout to pass Sandy Koufax for third all-time in franchise history. Despite allowing a season-high five free passes, Kershaw has pitched at least six innings in every start this season and sports the sixth lowest ERA in the National League (2.85) to go with a 1.06 WHIP and 122:27 K:BB. Next, the left-hander will take the hill at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday for a matchup against the Cardinals.

  • Chase Anderson RP | TEX

Brewers' Chase Anderson: Sharp again in no-decision

Anderson didn't factor into the decision against the Athletics on Thursday, giving up one earned run on two hits over six innings, striking out five and walking three in a 5-3 defeat for the Brewers.

Anderson continued his recent strong run of form, as he hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in any of his last seven starts since a six-run blowup against the Reds on June 21. The 31-year-old is turning in a solid season overall, as he's sporting a 3.73 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP and a 90:32 K:BB over 94 innings.
