Kolby Allard RP | CLE
Braves' Kolby Allard: Wins despite rough debut
Allard (1-0) earned the win Tuesday against the Braves after allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks across five innings. He recorded one strikeout.
Allard allowed a pair of runs in the second inning before yielding a solo home run to J.T. Realmuto in the fifth. He came back out for the sixth with a healthy lead, but he was pulled from the game after allowing three straight singles while the visitors plated another pair. The youngster posted excellent numbers with Triple-A Gwinnett this season, but this wasn't quite the big-league debut the club was hoping for. With Kevin Gausman joining the Braves at the trade deadline, Allard appears likely to head back down after this spot start.

Walker Buehler SP | SD
Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Tough-luck loser Tuesday
Buehler (4-4) was saddled with the loss Tuesday, allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven over seven innings against the Brewers.
Buehler coughed up a run in the third inning on a pair of two-out hits, but that was the only mark on his ledger in this one. His offense couldn't pick him up, as the Dodgers' bats managed just two hits all game in the 1-0 defeat. The rookie has struggled some over the past two months, but he wraps up July with a 17:2 K:BB over 16.2 innings in the month and will take a respectable 3.65 ERA and 1.06 WHIP into Sunday's start against the Astros.

Wade Miley SP | CIN
Brewers' Wade Miley: Fires seven shutout in win
Miley (2-1) got the win Tuesday, tossing seven shutout innings while striking out five with two hits and two walks allowed against the Dodgers.
The lefty was terrific in this one, shutting out a tough Dodgers lineup while firing a season-high seven innings and 101 pitches. Miley's pedestrian 17:15 K:BB over 29.1 innings leaves something to be desired, but he's allowed two or fewer runs in all six starts this season en route to a sparkling 1.53 ERA. He'll look to keep it going Sunday at home against the Rockies.

Jack Flaherty SP | DET
Cardinals' Jack Flaherty: Strikes out seven in loss
Flaherty (4-6) allowed four runs on five hits in a loss Tuesday to the Rockies, striking out seven and walking two in 5.1 innings.
Flaherty has failed to make it out of the sixth inning in five consecutive starts and has regressed from month to month. Flaherty had a 2.22 ERA in four starts in May, a 3.29 ERA in five starts in June and then posted a 4.71 ERA in six starts in July. The 22-year-old still has an excellent 111:32 K:BB in 90.1 innings this season, as well as a 1.13 WHIP and an outstanding .211 batting average against. His next start will be against the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

Jon Gray SP | TEX
Rockies' Jon Gray: Gets ninth win of season
Gray (9-7) allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits in a win over the Cardinals on Tuesday, striking out five and walking two in 7.1 innings.
The only extra-base hit Gray allowed was a leadoff home run by Matt Carpenter, and he threw 64 of 92 pitches for strikes the rest of the way. Gray has now thrown three consecutive quality starts and has not taken a loss in his last six starts. He's still riding a high 4.99 ERA but has an excellent 136:34 K:BB in 113.2 innings. The righty will next face off against the Brewers in a start in Milwaukee.

Steven Matz RP | TB
Mets' Steven Matz: Records only two outs
Matz (5-9) allowed seven runs on eight hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning against the Nationals on Tuesday. He struck out one and was tagged with the loss.
The Nationals exploded for 25 runs Tuesday to hand the Mets one of their most embarrassing defeats in team history, and Matz ended up throwing only 32 pitches to 11 batters. Matz was apparently battling a "dead arm" issue, but it's unclear whether he is in danger of missing a start at this point, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Jameson Taillon SP | TOR
Pirates' Jameson Taillon: Evens record with win over Cubs
Taillon (8-8) allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two over 6.2 innings in a win over the Cubs on Tuesday.
He flashed more dominance than the two strikeouts would suggest, inducing 14 swinging strikes on 89 pitches. The extent of the damage against Taillon came on one swing, with Javier Baez launching a three-run homer in the fourth. The 26-year-old Taillon hasn't allowed more than three runs in a start since May 22, posting a 3.18 ERA over his last 73.2 innings, and most will want to leave him active for next week's two step even with one of those starts coming in Colorado.

Adam Wainwright SP | STL
Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Rehab assignment likely forthcoming
Wainwright (elbow) could soon head out on a minor-league rehab assignment, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
Wainwright is still in the process of rebuilding his arm strength, having just thrown a pair of simulated innings in a Sunday bullpen. The right-hander was able to utilize all of his pitches, although he didn't quite throw them at full speed. Wainwright is likely to put in at least one more bullpen session before jumping back into game action for the first time since May 13.

Carlos Martinez SP | SF
Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: May miss 3-to-4 starts
Martinez (shoulder) is currently expected to miss 3-to-4 starts after being placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain Tuesday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
It still appears to be a preliminary diagnosis for Martinez, who is on the disabled list for the third time this season. A return in mid-August seems to be on the table for the time being, but a longer absence wouldn't be surprising after the 26-year-old sustained the shoulder injury in his return from an oblique injury, which was also to his right side.

Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR
Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Begins rehab assignment Thursday
Ryu (groin) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Ryu is slated to throw 3-to-4 innings after a two-inning simulated game last Wednesday. The 31-year-old could still be on track for a return in mid-August as he returns from the groin strain he sustained in early May.
