  • Rockies' German Marquez: Winning streak snapped

Marquez threw five innings in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Friday, giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits and three walks while striking out six.

Marquez had won his last three starts coming into this contest, but he wasn't able to extend the streak as the Diamondbacks knocked him around and forced him to use 101 pitches to get through five innings. He's now sporting an even 5.00 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP to go along with a 112:40 K:BB in 108 innings this season.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Gives up five in no-decision

Ray didn't factor into the decision against the Rockies on Friday, giving up five earned runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out two and walked one in Arizona's 11-10 defeat.

Ray was touched up by two homers from Nolan Arenado and wound up conceding five runs before exiting the contest after throwing just 93 pitches. It's been an erratic season on the whole for the 26-year-old right-hander coming off his fantastic 2017 campaign, as Ray now has a 5.37 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP in 11 starts.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Struggles in return from DL

Strasburg (6-7) took the loss Friday as the Nationals fell 8-5 to the Braves, surrendering six runs on eight hits and two walks over 4.2 innings while striking out six.

The right-hander threw 64 of 98 pitches for strikes in his first start since June 8, and while he generated a respectable 13 swinging strikes he also gave up plenty of hard contact -- five of the eight hits off Strasburg were doubles. He'll take a 3.90 ERA into his next outing Wednesday inn Milwaukee.

  • Pirates' Jameson Taillon: Generates strong start

Taillon (7-7) surrendered one run on six hits and one walk while striking out six across 5.1 innings Friday as he notched the win over the Reds.

Taillon gave up a run in the sixth inning, but he'd exit the ballgame with a five-run lead. Following his most recent outing, Taillon has logged three consecutive quality starts, as he's decreased his ERA from 4.05 to 3.80 over that span. He'll make his 21st start of the season next Wednesday against the Indians.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Rocked vs. Pirates

Mahle (7-8) surrendered six runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three across 5.2 innings as he took the loss Friday against Pittsburgh.

Mahle allowed two runs in the fourth followed by four in the sixth as he exited with six-run deficit. He's struggled over his previous two outings, giving up 11 runs across just eight innings of work. Through 21 starts this season, he sits with a 4.32 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with a 101:46 K:BB. Mahle will look to turn it around after a rough start to July, as he entered the month with a 3.83 ERA.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Turns in quality outing

Hill (3-4) surrendered one run on five hits and four walks while fanning nine across six innings Friday as he notched the win against Milwaukee.

Hill sailed through seven strong frames, as he allowed just a single run in the fifth on a Christian Yelich RBI double. Hill has been inconsistent over his previous two starts (six runs across 12 innings) although he managed to put it together in the Dodgers' first game back from the All-Star break. He sits with a 4.26 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with a 69:24 K:BB over 61.1 innings in 2018.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Brewers' Wade Miley: Tosses six strong frames

Miley allowed one run (zero earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out five across six innings as he didn't factor into the decision.

Miley exited in a 1-1 game, with the only run against him coming on a passed ball in the third inning. The 31-year-old lefty has made two starts since coming off the disabled list, allowing two earned runs with seven strikeouts over 11 innings. Miley's next start figures to come Wednesday against the Nationals.

  • Jack Flaherty SP | DET

Cardinals' Jack Flaherty: Fans nine in win over Cubs

Flaherty (4-4) cruised to an easy win Friday in an 18-5 rout of the Cubs, allowing one run on two hits and four walks over five innings while striking out nine.

A solo shot by Willson Contreras in the second inning accounted for the only run off the right-hander. Flaherty was far from efficient, needing 110 pitches (68 strikes) to get through five frames, but given the eruption by the Cards' offense the result was never in doubt. He'll take a 3.15 ERA into his next outing Wednesday in Cincinnati.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Expected to make next start

Manager Mickey Callaway stated Syndergaard (hand) "ended up being fine" following Friday's outing against the Yankees, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Syndergaard was removed after five innings after the Mets were concerned with a decrease in his velocity. After further evaluation, the lefty appears to be healthy, and he'll make his next scheduled start against the Padres on Wednesday.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Pulled after five innings

Syndergaard was lifted from Friday's start against the Yankees after his velocity dipped in his final inning of work, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. He tossed five innings, allowing one run on eight hits while striking out four as he exited the game in line for the victory.

A trainer came out to evaluate Syndergaard during the fifth inning, but he managed to stay in the game and finish the frame. After being removed, the trainer was spotted examining Syndergaard's pitching hand in the dugout, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports. The extent of the injury is currently unknown, but more news figures to surface in the near future. Syndergaard has made just two appearances since missing time on the shelf with a strained ligament in his right index finger, so it's unclear if this is a related issue.
