Patrick Corbin SP | TOR
Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin: Velocity down last two outings
Corbin's average fastball velocity has sat between 89-to-90 miles per hour over his last two outings and dropped to 87-to-88 mph range during the final inning of his start Wednesday against the Dodgers, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic Arizona reports.
With a 1.64 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 12 strikeouts in 11 frames over the past two starts, Corbin's results haven't indicated any obvious decline, but Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo admitted that the lefty's command hasn't been as sharp of late. That's been especially apparent when Corbin throws his best pitch (the slider), as he's generated swing and misses on the offering 16 percent of the time in May after drawing whiffs at a nearly 33 percent clip over his first six starts. In addition to his slider finding the dirt more than usual, Corbin's fastball velocity readings bring additional cause for concern. Though Corbin has never thrown major heat, the fact that he hasn't thrown a pitch over 92 mph his past two times out after averaging nearly 93 mph prior to that has given him less margin for error when he works in the zone. While the 28-year-old insists he's healthy and expects his velocity and command to rebound, fantasy owners may nonetheless want to consider shopping him to guard against the bottom falling out completely.

Zack Greinke SP | KC
Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke: Throws seven strong innings
Greinke scattered four hits over seven innings, giving up one earned run and striking out six with no walks, but didn't factor into the decision as the Diamondbacks eventually fell 2-1 in extra innings to the Nationals on Thursday.
Greinke got off to a bit of an uneven start to the season but he's now allowed just four earned runs over his last 18.2 innings to bring his ERA down to 3.70 and his WHIP to 1.03. The veteran right-hander has yet to walk more than two batters in a game this season, resulting in an elite 53:6 K:BB that points to a slightly better ERA if he continues to pitch at that level.

Tyler Mahle SP | ATL
Reds' Tyler Mahle: Picks up win against Dodgers
Mahle (3-4) got the win against the Dodgers on Thursday, scattering three hits and allowing one unearned run over five innings, striking out two and walking four as the Reds eventually prevailed 4-1.
It's not all that often a pitcher can lay claim to a victory in an outing where they walk double the batters they strike out, but that's exactly what Mahle did in this contest, as he did well to limit the damage against the Dodgers despite needing 109 pitches to make it through the five innings. This certainly wasn't his most efficient outing, but Mahle's numbers on the season are still respectable, as he's now got a 3.86 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP and a 44:15 K:BB through 44.1 innings. The 23-year-old is slated to take the mound next against the Giants on Tuesday.

Walker Buehler SP | SD
Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Continues to impress
Buehler (2-1) got the loss against the Reds on Thursday, giving up two earned runs on five hits over six innings, striking out eight with no walks as the Dodgers fell 4-1.
Buehler couldn't quite match the feat of his combined no-hitter against the Padres in his last start but the 23-year-old was impressive again against Cincinnati despite not receiving enough help from his offense to put him in line for the win. The rookie certainly looks like the real deal, with a 1.64 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP and a 27:7 K:BB to his name through 22 innings. His rotation spot can be considered secure with Hyun-Jin Ryu shelved by a long-term groin injury, and he's scheduled to take the mound again in a road matchup against Miami next Wednesday.

German Marquez SP | SD
Rockies' German Marquez: Struggles against Brewers
Marquez (2-4) allowed five earned runs on 12 hits while walking three and striking out three across 4.2 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Brewers.
Marquez allowed a lead-off home run to Lorenzo Cain on the first pitch of the game, setting the tone for the rest of the start. He was in trouble for much of the start, and rarely escaped without allowing damage to his ratios. He has shown heavy splits early in the season, allowing 18 earned runs in 15.2 innings pitched at home this season.

Jordan Lyles RP | KC
Padres' Jordan Lyles: Strikes out six in five innings
Lyles (0-1) took the loss against the Cardinals on Thursday, scattering five hits over five innings, allowing just one earned run, striking out six and walking one as the Padres eventually fell 2-1.
It was the first start of the season for Lyles, who had been working out of the bullpen to this point but earned a look as a starter from manager Andy Green due to his strong work as a reliever. He did well with his first opportunity in limiting the Cardinals to the one earned run but was unlucky to get outdueled by counterpart Miles Mikolas and tagged with the loss. The performance lowered his ERA to 3.28 and his WHIP to 1.09, so he's been pitching well all season and Green has said that Lyles will remain in the rotation.

Miles Mikolas RP | WAS
Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Picks up fifth win
Mikolas (5-0) got the win against the Padres on Thursday, striking out four and walking one on six hits over 6.2 innings as the Cardinals beat San Diego 2-1.
The right-hander kept rolling with yet another solid effort, lowering his ERA to 2.51 and his WHIP to 0.96 over 46.2 innings. Perhaps even more impressively, his K:BB now stands at 35:3, a mark that suggests this strong start is the real deal and not entirely the result of good luck. The small sample size caveat will apply until we get deeper into the season and opposing hitters have more of a chance to get familiar with him, but so far Mikolas has been a revelation for the Cardinals and fantasy owners alike after signing with St. Louis this offseason following a three-season run in Japan.

Adam Wainwright SP | STL
Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Targeting Sunday return to rotation
Wainwright (elbow) could start Sunday against the Padres depending on how he feels following Thursday's bullpen session, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatchreports.
The veteran tossed what could be his final tuneup bullpen session Thursday before coming off the disabled list. The team is set to reevaluate him Friday, and if everything checks out, Wainwright will be lined up to start the series finale in San Diego. John Gant will be available to start Sunday if Wainwright is ultimately unable to give it a go.

Clayton Kershaw SP | LAD
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Throws again Thursday
Kershaw (biceps) played catch from 60 feet on Thursday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.
Thursday marked the second day in a row that Kershaw was able to play catch. While that's an encouraging sign, there's still no timetable for Kershaw's return. His proximity to a return will come into focus once he begins ramping up his throwing sessions.

Brandon Finnegan SP | CHW
Reds' Brandon Finnegan: Optioned to Triple-A
Finnegan will be optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Friday, John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
The move clears room for Matt Harvey to officially join the rotation for his start Friday against the Dodgers. Finnegan was given a vote of confidence regarding his spot in the rotation earlier in the week, but the acquisition of Harvey changed matters. Finnegan's start to the season was rocky as he posted a 7.40 ERA through five starts and lasted a combined 20.2 innings in those appearances. He'll head down to Triple-A for now and figures to be one of the top candidates to be called back up whenever the Reds need a fresh arm next.
