Chris Owings SS | LAD
Diamondbacks' Chris Owings: Hits 60-day DL
Owings (finger) was placed on the 60-day disabled list Monday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
Owings injured his finger Sunday after getting hit by a pitch, and after an X-ray revealed a fracture, he'll be out for most (if not all) of the remainder of the regular season -- although a return for a potential playoff run hasn't been ruled out yet. In the meantime, Ketel Marte (personal), Daniel Descalso, Brandon Drury and Adam Rosales should combine to fill the void in Arizona's middle infield.

Trevor Story SS | BOS
Rockies' Trevor Story: Heads to bench for Game 2 on Sunday
Story is not in the lineup for the second game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Nationals.
Although he's been improving at the plate lately, Story struggled in the matinee game Sunday, fanning three times in a hitless performance. He'll head to the bench for the nightcap, allowing Pat Valaika to log a start at shortstop.

Chris Owings SS | LAD
Diamondbacks' Chris Owings: Out with finger fracture
Owings was diagnosed with a fractured right middle finger Sunday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
This is certainly one of the worst outcomes that could have come back following X-rays on the infielder's hand. Prior to being removed from Sunday's contest, Owings was piecing together a strong season, producing career bests in OPS (.743), home runs (12) and RBI (51) despite a recent slump. No timetable for his return has been released, although the Diamondbacks admitted that he'll be out for a while. Look for Brandon Drury and Daniel Descalso to pick up extra innings at the keystone to fill the void.

Allen Cordoba SS | CIN
Padres' Allen Cordoba: Takes seat Sunday
Cordoba is out of the lineup Sunday against the Pirates, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Cordoba appeared poised to take over as the Padres' regular shortstop after Erick Aybar was placed on the disabled list July 22 with a fractured foot, but with the rookie recording just one hit in 16 at-bats since that time, he may have fallen behind Dusty Coleman on the depth chart. Coleman will pick up his third start in four games Sunday.

Chris Owings SS | LAD
Diamondbacks' Chris Owings: Exits with apparent hand injury
Owings exited Sunday's game against the Cardinals early with an apparent hand injury, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Owings was plunked on the hand by a pitch while squaring up for a bunt in the top of the second inning. He was immediately removed from the game and replaced by Daniel Descalso during the at-bat. The specifics on his injury should be revealed after he's undergone tests on his hand.

Trevor Story SS | BOS
Rockies' Trevor Story: Crushes 15th home run Saturday
Story went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer Saturday against the Nationals.
Story smashed his 15th bomb of the season to give the Rockies a second-inning lead they'd never relinquish. He's left the yard four times over his last eight games, and although his batting average leaves much to be desired, his overall July performance could be the sign of an improved second half of the season.

Trea Turner SS | PHI
Nationals' Trea Turner: Takes part in light throwing
Turner (wrist) did some light throwing on the field prior to Saturday's game, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.
The throwing was described by Kolko as "very, very light," but this is positive development nonetheless. He has done conditioning work, lifting and even fielding of groundballs in recent days, but these are just the baby steps. Turner will remain without even a vague timetable until he progresses to more arduous activities.

Chris Owings SS | LAD
Diamondbacks' Chris Owings: Out of lineup Saturday
Owings is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Daniel Descalso and Ketel Marte will man the middle-infield positions as Owings sits for the second time in four games. With a .137/.154/.196 line and 15 strikeouts since the break, Owings seems to be undoing some of the goodwill he built up with his strong first half, but it's hard to imagine he will lose his role entirely.

Brandon Crawford SS | STL
Giants' Brandon Crawford: Goes deep Friday
Crawford went 1-for-4 with his ninth home run of the season in Friday's loss to the Dodgers.
The home run was Crawford's first since the All-Star break, but the shortstop has been seeing the ball better in the second half, batting .269 with eight extra-base hits over his previous 14 contests. The 30-year-old's overall production has been subpar this year (.232/.273/.384), but his recent success at the plate combined with his placement in the heart of the Giants' order put him back on the map in deeper formats.

Corey Seager SS | TEX
Dodgers' Corey Seager: Goes deep twice Friday
Seager went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBI in a 6-4 win over the Giants on Friday.
Seager continues to drive the ball with authority since returning from the All-Star break, smacking five long balls over his previous 13 games. He ranks in the top third in homers (18), walks (51) and OPS (.901) amongst all major-league shortstops, solidifying his status as one of the league's premier sluggers. At just 23 years of age, it is exciting to think about what type of hitter Seager could be once he actually enters his prime years.
