  • Chris Owings SS | LAD

    Diamondbacks' Chris Owings: Out Monday

Owings is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Owings will get the day off as the Diamondbacks put Jean Segura at shortstop and Phil Gosselin at second base for the series opener against Milwaukee. The 24-year-old is 1-for-9 through his first two games back after missing the previous 37 with plantar fasciitis in his left foot, so it appears Arizona will try to slowly ease him back into action.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Homers, doubles in loss to White Sox

Baez homered, scored two runs and drove in two runs in a 3-for-4 game in a loss Monday against the White Sox.

Baez was almost the entire Cubs offense on a night where they lost 5-4. He was hitting a sharp .333 in July entering the night but hadn't shown much power, with just one home run and three doubles in 19 games. Baez also doubled Monday, and his batting line is now up to a robust .292/.333/.473.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Could transition to CF

Turner could move to center field when Ryan Zimmerman (ribs) returns Tuesday, CSN Mid-Atlantic's Chase Hughes reports.

The Nationals have been open about the fact that Turner's days of being a regular in the infield will come to an end once Zimmerman returns, but he has worked a little in center field in the minors, and it's currently an area of need for the Nationals. Turner is hitting .282 with four steals and five runs in 10 MLB games this season and should already be owned in all formats. If he transitions to the outfield, that would be a boon for his owners; otherwise, he'll serve as backup infielder and pinch runner.

  • Phillies' Taylor Featherston: Recalled from Triple-A

Featherston was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday.

Featherston will join the Phillies in place of Andres Blanco, who was placed on the 15-day DL with a fractured left index finger in a corresponding move. The 26-year-old is hitting .254/.324/.448 with three home runs and 10 RBI in Triple-A since the start of July; he will likely assume a backup infielder role with the Phillies.

  • Phillies' Taylor Featherston: Likely to be promoted Monday

Featherston will likely be promoted to the majors on Monday, Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

The Phillies will place Andres Blanco on the disabled list Monday with a fractured left index finger, opening up a utility spot on the team's roster. Featherston was held out of Sunday's lineup at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and is already on the 40-man roster, making him the best candidate to replace Blanco. He's hit .264/.320/.446 with 12 home runs and four stolen bases in 352 at-bats for Lehigh Valley this season.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Homers again versus Atlanta

Story went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a double and an additional run scored during Sunday's win over Atlanta.

Story feasted on Braves pitching over the weekend series, as four of his seven hits went for home runs en route to nine RBI and seven runs scored. 'Breakout' hardly seems to describe what Story has done during his first major league season, as his 27 round-trippers now lead the National League.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Monster night inspires win over Braves

Story went 4-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base during Saturday's 8-4 win over the Braves.

The impressive rookie dug his team out of an early hole with a two-run blast in the second inning, gave them the lead with a two-run single in the sixth, and put an exclamation point on the win with a solo shot in the eighth. Story has been an excellent source of power this season, but he has been especially productive over the last six games in that department, as he has five home runs to go along with 10 RBI, eight runs scored and a pair of stolen bases to boot.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Placed on 15-day DL

Ahmed was placed on the 15-day DL on Saturday due to a right hip impingement.

The Diamondbacks swapped out shortstops on the DL on Saturday, as Chris Owings was activated in a corresponding move. Ahmed's 43 wRC+ is the lowest mark in baseball among hitters with at least 300 plate appearances, and the next closest player is Alcides Escobar with a wRC+ of 60, so Ahmed is on his own level of offensive futility. Owings should get the bulk of the starts at shortstop for the Diamondbacks while Ahmed is out.

  • Chris Owings SS | LAD

Diamondbacks' Chris Owings: Activated, starting at shortstop Saturday

Owings (plantar fasciitis) was reinstated from the 15-day DL on Saturday and is starting at shortstop and hitting fifth against the Reds.

He will take the place of Nick Ahmed on the active roster after Ahmed was placed on the DL with a right hip impingement. Owings figures to handle the shortstop duties while Ahmed is out, and he will hope to pick up where he left off prior to the injury. Still just 24, Owings' .759 OPS is the best mark of his career. He has rewarded those who did not completely give up on him after he turned in a sub-replacement-level season in 2015.
