Justin Bruihl RP | CLE
Guardians' Justin Bruihl: DFA'd by Cleveland
The Guardians designated Bruihl for assignment Saturday.
Cleveland just acquired Bruihl from Toronto in exchange for cash considerations Wednesday, but it appears the Guardians no longer see the southpaw as part of the team's big-league bullpen after they signed Shawn Armstrong on Thursday. Bruihl can elect to become a free agent if he passes through waivers unclaimed. He may have to settle for a minor-league deal eventually, as he holds a career 4.72 ERA and 1.37 WHIP with a 69:32 K:BB over 89.2 innings across 94 games spanning parts of five campaigns.

Paul Blackburn RP | NYY
Yankees' Paul Blackburn: Back with Yankees on one-year deal
The Yankees signed Blackburn to a one-year, $2 million contract Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Blackburn began last season with the Mets but was released in mid-August. He was subsequently signed by the Yankees, with whom he made eight appearances out of the bullpen, posting a 5.28 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 16:4 K:BB over 15.1 regular-season innings. While those numbers aren't impressive, the bulk of the damage against him came in his team debut, when he gave up seven runs over 3.1 frames against Boston. Over his remaining seven appearances, Blackburn was much more effective, yielding just three runs (two earned) while posting a 14:2 K:BB across 12 innings. The veteran right-hander will likely work as a middle- and long-relief option next season with New York and also gives the team rotation depth given his history of working as a big-league starter.

Justyn-Henry Malloy 3B | DET
Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Designated for assignment
Malloy was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Saturday.
The Tigers needed to make room on the 40-man roster for recent re-signee Kyle Finnegan, and Malloy has ended up being the cut. Malloy has struggled during his time in the majors so far, posting a .656 OPS with nine home runs, 38 RBI, 33 runs and one stolen base over 123 games spanning 357 plate appearances. He's also posted a 32.8 percent strikeout rate, though he has shown an ability to take a free pass with a 12.0 percent walk rate. That and his moderate power could make him a target on waivers for other MLB clubs.

Stuart Fairchild LF | CLE
Guardians' Stuart Fairchild: Gets NRI from Cleveland
Fairchild signed a minor-league contract with the Guardians on Saturday that includes an invitation to spring training.
Finger and oblique injuries kept Fairchild on the sidelines for the majority of the 2025 season, and he posted just a .606 OPS over 55 plate appearances with Atlanta when healthy. The 29-year-old outfielder will have a chance to win a job on Cleveland's bench during spring training, but he's likely destined to spend most of the upcoming season at Triple-A Columbus.

Osvaldo Bido SP | TB
Rays' Osvaldo Bido: Claimed by Tampa Bay
The Rays claimed Bido off waivers from Atlanta on Friday.
Bido has now bounced around via waivers from the Athletics to Atlanta and now to Tampa Bay this month. The right-hander had an unsightly 5.87 ERA and 18.7 percent strikeout rate in 2025, but he was much better in 2024 with a 3.41 ERA and 24.3 percent strikeout rate. Bido does not have minor-league options left, but he offers the flexibility to be used either in a starting or relief role.

Joshua Walker RP | BAL
Orioles' Josh Walker: DFA'd by Baltimore
The Orioles designated Walker for assignment Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Walker was claimed off waivers from Atlanta earlier this month after he was previously DFA'd by Baltimore in November. He's now going to be exposed to waivers once again. The 31-year-old left-hander appeared in three games for Toronto last season, turning in a 7.20 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and 8:2 K:BB across five innings of work at the big-league level.

Anderson Brito SP | HOU
Rays' Anderson Brito: Dealt to Tampa Bay
The Rays acquired Brito and Jacob Melton from the Astros on Friday in a three-team trade that sent Mike Burrows to the Astros and Brandon Lowe, Jake Mangum and Mason Montgomery to the Pirates, Chandler Rome and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic report.
The 21-year-old right-hander spent the entire 2025 campaign at High-A Asheville and started all 12 games in which he appeared, registering a 3.28 ERA and 11.9 K/9 across 49.1 innings. Brito missed some time with an unspecified injury but was back to full strength in October.

Jacob Melton OF | TB
Rays' Jacob Melton: Shipped to Tampa Bay
The Rays acquired Melton and Anderson Brito from the Astros on Friday in a three-team trade that sent Mike Burrows to the Astros and Brandon Lowe, Jake Mangum and Mason Montgomery to the Pirates, Chandler Rome and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic report.
Melton was one of Houston's top prospects, and the 25-year-old got his first taste of MLB action last season, appearing in 32 games for the Astros. The outfielder slashed .157/.234/.186 with one triple, seven RBI, seven runs scored, seven stolen bases and a 6:29 BB:K across 78 big-league plate appearances. He figures to initially slot into Tampa Bay's outfield mix behind Chandler Simpson, Cedric Mullins, Josh Lowe and potentially even Jake Fraley.

Michael Burrows SP | HOU
Astros' Mike Burrows: Heading to Houston
The Astros are acquiring Burrows from the Pirates on Friday in a three-team trade that also includes the Rays, Chandler Rome, Stephen J. Nesbitt and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Burrows opened 2025 in the minors but made his season debut for the Pirates in May, and he delivered a strong rookie campaign with a 3.94 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 97:31 K:BB across 96 innings. The right-hander is the only piece heading to the Astros in the deal, with Brandon Lowe, Mason Montgomery and Jake Mangum moving to Pittsburgh while the Rays get Anderson Brito and Jacob Melton. Burrows should slot into the middle of Houston's rotation during his sophomore campaign.

Austin Overn CF | BAL
Rays' Austin Overn: Shipped to Rays
The Rays acquired Overn, Slater de Brun, Caden Bodine and Michael Forret from the Orioles on Friday in exchange for Shane Baz, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
It's a big haul for Tampa Bay, but it's a seller's market and Baz is under team control for three more seasons. Overn split last season between High-A and Double-A, and he posted a .753 OPS across both levels while totaling 13 home runs and 63 stolen bases in 114 games.
