  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: X-rays negative on elbow

The Blue Jays announced that Guerrero was diagnosed with a right elbow contusion following his departure from Sunday's game against the Pirates in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Guerrero reached on all three of his plate appearances, scoring a run and drawing two walks before immediately leaving the game after he was hit by a pitch. Fortunately for Guerrero, X-rays on his elbow ruled out a fracture, but the bruise could still be significant enough to cost him some time. The first baseman can be viewed as day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener versus the Marlins.

  • Dylan Cease SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Dylan Cease: Tweaks hamstring Sunday

The Blue Jays announced that Cease was removed from his start Sunday against the Pirates in the fifth inning due to left hamstring discomfort.

Cease struck out eight and allowed two earned runs on four hits and one walk before being lifted with two outs in the top of the fifth inning. The Blue Jays will likely send the right-hander in for a more thorough examination to determine whether he's dealing with a hamstring strain, though the club hasn't yet indicated that he'll require an MRI. For now, Cease's availability for his next turn through the rotation Friday in Baltimore is in flux.

  • Astros' Braden Shewmake: Taking seat against southpaw

Shewmake is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.

With southpaw Shota Imanaga on the bump for the Cubs, Shewmake will retreat to the bench after going 0-for-5 with a walk and a run scored while starting the first two games of the series at second base. Brice Matthews will handle the keystone Sunday.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Exits after being hit by pitch

Guerrero was removed from Sunday's game against the Pirates in the bottom of the fifth inning after being hit by a pitch on the inside of his right elbow, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. He drew two walks in his other two plate appearances, scoring one run.

Rather than letting Guerrero run the bases before replacing him in the field in the top half of the inning, the Blue Jays immediately lifted the 27-year-old from the contest after he was struck by a 92 mph Mitch Keller sinker. The Blue Jays will likely put Guerrero through preliminary tests to determine whether he suffered any fractures before providing an update on his status.

Though the nature of Cease's injury isn't known, the right-hander was seen shaking out his legs while he was visited on the mound by manager John Schneider and the Toronto medical staff, per Mitch Bannon of The Athletic. After initially staying in the game following the visit, Cease threw just two more pitches before being lifted. His availability for his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Baltimore, should become clearer once he's undergone further testing.

  • Jose Suarez RP | ATH

Athletics' Jose Suarez: Effective in 2.2 relief frames

Suarez allowed a hit and a walk while striking out four over 2.2 scoreless innings in Saturday's 2-0 loss to the Padres.

With starter J.T. Ginn struggling to find the zone, Suarez entered in the third inning and allowed an inherited baserunner to score, but he was able to settle in and keep the Padres from extending their lead for the remainder of his outing. The southpaw's four strikeouts marked his highest total through four appearances with the Athletics and his second-highest mark of the campaign. Across 13 outings between Atlanta, Seattle and the Athletics, Suarez owns a 6.17 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and 30:16 K:BB in 23.1 innings.

  • Royals' Jac Caglianone: Logs first stolen base

Caglianone went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-0 win over the Mariners.

Caglianone contributed to the Royals' three-run first inning with a two-out RBI single before promptly stealing second base. It marked the 23-year-old's first successful stolen base of the season after he was caught in his lone previous attempt April 4 against the Brewers. Speed isn't exactly the right fielder's calling card, but he's also shown improvement at the plate in his second big-league season. Caglianone is slashing .247/.310/.416 with 15 extra-base hits (five homers), 11 RBI and 18 runs across 47 games in 2026 after mustering just a .532 OPS over 62 contests in 2025.

Langford (forearm) was cleared to begin a throwing and hitting progression Friday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

He appears to be trending toward a return from the 10-day injured list in early-to-mid-June.
