The Grizzlies announced Thursday that Williams (lower leg) has been assigned to the Memphis Hustle of the G League for practice but will be recalled to the NBA immediately after. Williams has yet to play this season while dealing with a stress reaction in the upper portion of his left tibia. While Williams appears to be ramping up toward a return, he is expected to remain sidelined for a few more weeks.

The Grizzlies announced Friday that Williams (lower leg) continues to progress in his rehab and is expected to return to play within 2-to-4 weeks. Williams missed all of training camp and the preseason due to a stress reaction in the upper portion of his left tibia, and he's remained sidelined to start the regular season. After a breakout campaign for the injury-riddled Grizzlies last season, Williams will be looking at a reduced role when cleared, especially if Memphis is healthy.

Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins said Monday that Williams (shin) is "still a couple weeks away" from being ready for game action, Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports. Williams will likely be re-evaluated later this month before the Grizzlies potentially clear him to resume basketball activities, but he'll require some ramp-up time after he missed all of training camp and the preseason with a stress reaction in the upper portion of his left tibia. As a second-year player in 2023-24, Williams saw ample playing time for a Grizzlies squad that was decimated by injuries, finishing the season with 10.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.5 three-pointers, 0.9 steals and 0.7 blocks in 27.6 minutes over his 56 appearances. He should be part of the rotation when healthy, but Williams will be looking at a smaller role if the likes of Ja Morant, Desmond Bane and Marcus Smart are able to stay on the court more frequently in 2024-25.

The Grizzlies announced Thursday that imaging has revealed a stress reaction in the upper portion of Williams' tibia and he will be re-evaluated in approximately four weeks. While Williams is expected to make a full recovery, he will almost certainly miss all of training camp and the preseason. The 24-year-old forward could remain sidelined for Memphis' regular-season opener Oct. 23 against Utah. Williams is slated to be one of the Grizzlies' top forward options off the bench when healthy this season.

Williams (knee) is out for Sunday's game against the Nuggets. Williams missed each of Memphis' final 18 games, but his absence is not a surprise, as the Grizzlies decided to essentially shut down their roster a few weeks ago. Williams ends his second year in The Association with averages of 10.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 0.9 steals across 27.6 minutes per game in 52 appearances (33 starts).
