Elton Brand: Gets formally waived Sunday

Elton Brand was formally waived by the 76ers on Saturday, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. It's just a procedural move, as Brand had announced Thursday that he would retire from professional basketball. Brand could end up sticking with the organization in a front-office position, but his departure leaves the 76ers with 19 players heading into Monday's deadline to trim the roster to 15 men.

    Elton Brand: Retires from NBA

Elton Brand announced Thursday that he will retire from the NBA following a 17-year career, Bob Cooney of the Philadelphia Daily News reports. After a 17-game cameo with the 76ers last season in which he mainly served in a mentoring role to the team's young big men, Brand was expected to head into retirement once his contract expired in July. However, after discussing his future plans with the 76ers' front office over the summer, he eventually agreed to re-sign with the team on a one-year deal prior to training camp that included a guarantee of $980,000. He was expected to essentially act as a coach off the bench, but with injuries already making roster decisions difficult for the team, Brand's 15-man spot may have been in jeopardy. Brand will officially stick around with the team until their preseason schedule concludes Friday, after which he'll be waived by the team and collect his guaranteed money. The two-time All-Star's productive career has now concluded, but it's expected that Brad will stick around the game in some capacity, perhaps even in a front office role with the 76ers.

76ers' Elton Brand: Re-signs with Sixers

Elton Brand signed a one-year contract with the Sixers on Wednesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports.Brand hinted earlier this offseason that he would likely retire following his 2015-16 campaign, but it appears he's had a change of heart and will re-sign with the Sixers for another year. The 37-year-old will likely serve as a veteran presence off the bench, but should struggle to see anything more than spot minutes on a regular basis. Last season with the Sixers, Brand saw action in just 17 games, posting averages of 4.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists over 13 minutes per game. He should remain off the fantasy radar.

76ers' Elton Brand: Hints at retirement

Elton Brand hinted Sunday that he'll likely retire after the season, independent Philadelphia 76ers writer Chris Vito reports.Brand has taken on an increased role over the last few weeks, but he's mostly served as a veteran locker room presence for the 76ers since signing with the team. The former No. 1 overall pick enjoyed several productive years with the Bulls, Clippers, and 76ers (during an earlier stint), but at age 37, he's nearing the end of the road and would be unlikely to draw serious interest as a free agent. Brand holds career averages of 15.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.7 blocks over 17 seasons.

76ers' Elton Brand: Will start Tuesday

Elton Brand will get the start at center on Tuesday night when the Philadelphia 76ers take on the Pelicans, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.Tuesday will mark the first time this season that Brand will be in the starting lineup. The veteran has only played in 14 games with the 76ers this year, as he was brought on to serve in a mentorship role for many of the team's young stars. Brand has continued to see his minutes rise in the last week, as he has averaged 8.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.8 blocks, and 0.5 steals in 21 minutes a contest in the last four games. Look for him to split time with Nerlens Noel (knee) on Tuesday, who returns to the court on a 20-minute restriction.

76ers' Elton Brand: Notches double-doubles off bench Friday

Elton Brand scored 13 points (5-9 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-3 FT) and added 11 rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 24 minutes during the Philadelphia 76ers' 100-91 loss to the Hornets on Friday.Brand posted season highs in scoring, rebounding, and minutes played on Friday, looking like his old self as he splashed mid-range jumpers and fought for boards. Given the injuries to Jahlil Okafor (knee), Nerlens Noel (knee), and Richaun Holmes (Achilles), Brand is one of the few healthy players capable of manning the center position. As a result, he could continue to see around 20 minutes per game for the remainder of the season.

76ers' Elton Brand: Scores 10 points in season-high 17 minutes Sunday

Elton Brand compiled 10 points (5-6 FG), three rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in 17 minutes during the Philadelphia 76ers' 117-105 loss to the Warriors on Sunday.Brand has appeared in 11 of 14 March matchups, and Sunday's 10 points equaled his season high. Through 11 games, the 37-year-old is averaging four points (47.6 FG, 80.0 FT), two rebounds, one assist, 0.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks in 11 minutes per contest.

76ers' Elton Brand: Makes season debut Friday

Elton Brand had eight points (3-6 FG, 2-2 FT) and four rebounds in 13 minutes during the Philadelphia 76ers' 112-102 loss to the Heat on Friday.76ers' starting big men Nerlens Noel (knee) and Jahlil Okafor (shin) were both sidelined Friday, and coach Brett Brown indicated that Brand had earned the right to play anyways. The 36-year-old forward is unlikely to warrant serious consideration in fantasy, but he can still set a screen, pop to the elbow area, and knock down a jumper. His veteran leadership is obviously the main reason that he was picked up midseason, but it looks like Brand will at least see some time over the final months of 2015-16.

Elton Brand is yet to appear in a game since signing with the Philadelphia 76ers in early January.Brand signed on with the expectation that he'd essentially act as a veteran locker room presence, and he's been just that.
