Whitehurst hyper-extended his left knee toward the end of Sunday's game against the Titans, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
The team's healthiest quarterback at that point, Whitehurst returned to take a knee on the final snap, which doesn't necessarily mean he was healthy enough to play. However, it sounds as if Cody Kessler (ribs) and/or Josh McCown (collarbone) will be ready for Week 6 against the Titans, rendering Whitehurt's health status of little importance to the team. Then again, it's a bit too early to make assumptions, so Whitehurst does have an outside shot to get a start, if his hyper-extension isn't too serious. He replaced an injured Kessler on Sunday, completing 14 of 24 passes for 182 yards, with a touchdown and an interception.
