The landscape often shifts dramatically in Fantasy football and when they do the best tool managers have at their disposal is the Fantasy football waiver wire. Jordan Mason was only drafted as a handcuff to Christian McCaffrey, if at all, but he's turned into a week-in, week-out starter while filling in for the consensus No. 1 pick in 2024 Fantasy football drafts. Chiefs running back Carson Steele is also looking like a helpful addition after he was plied with 18 touches inr relief of Isiah Pacheco in Week 3.

So which Fantasy football running backs can you count on to plug holes in your Week 4 Fantasy football lineups or just to add depth to your Fantasy football roster? Having a clear idea of who to target and what to spend in auction leagues can give you an enormous edge over your competition. So before making any Week 4 Fantasy football waiver wire claims, be sure to see what SportsLine Fantasy football analyst Scott Engel has to say.

An inaugural member of the Fantasy Sports Writers Association's Hall of Fame, Engel has contributed to many outlets during his 25 years in the industry, including The Athletic, SiriusXM FantasySports Radio, ESPN.com, NFL.com, the Associated Press, Yahoo Sports, SI.com, the New York Post, USA Today, RotoBaller, and of course, CBSSports.com.

Now, he's revealed his top waiver wire pick from among the widely available Fantasy football free agents entering Week 4. You can see his top Fantasy NFL waiver wire picks and full analysis over at SportsLine

Top Fantasy football waiver wire picks for Week 4

One player Engel is advising Fantasy players to target on the Week 4 waiver wire: Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold. The former No. 2 overall pick was in a hard-fought battle with first-round rookie J.J. McCarthy during the preseason but won the job by default when McCarthy suffered a season-ending knee injury. However, Darnold has taken advantage of the opportunity by averaging 8.4 yards per pass attempt and throwing at least two touchdown passes (eight total) in each of his first three games.

"Alright, alright, we are convinced that Darnold is not only worth an add, but possibly a spot in your starting lineup," Engel told SportsLine. "Geno Smith first showed us that several years away from the Jets were needed to recover from the experience, and now Darnold doubled down on the theory. He is playing through a knee injury, although it is not considered to be overly serious."

Engel is also strongly recommending 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings. The fourth-year pro out of Tennessee should have been on your radar last week with Deebo Samuel and George Kittle battling injuries. However, Jennings is still available in over 70% of CBS Sports leagues. That won't be the case after this weekend, as Jennings caught 11 passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns. It will be costly to land his services now but it might be worth it for as long as San Francisco is battling injuries offensively.

"I do find it a bit baffling that Jennings went unclaimed in so many leagues last week, especially on CBS Sports, where the free agent competition is usually more fierce," Engel said. "I recommended bidding 38% of your available budget for him last week, even though a 40-plus point fantasy day was well beyond anyone's expectations." See who else to target on the Fantasy football waiver wire at SportsLine
