This has already been one of the toughest seasons in recent memory for Fantasy football injuries, but managers did experience some relief in Week 9 with Puka Nacua, Cooper Kupp, Tua Tagovailoa and Jonathan Taylor all making returns after lengthy injuries. Taylor carried the ball 20 times for 105 yards and a touchdown and no other Colts running back registered a carry. With Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson no longer available as emergency options for your Fantasy football lineups, where can you turn for running back help?
The Week 9 Fantasy football waiver wire includes some intriguing options at the position but they all require some level of projection, with backs like Sean Tucker or Jaleel McLaughlin likely needing a situation change to make a serious impact. Before making any Week 9 Fantasy football waiver claims, be sure to see what SportsLine Fantasy football expert R.J. White has to say.
White has dominated NFL betting picks for years, but he got his start in sports media as a Fantasy baseball and football analyst. He finished No. 1 among all experts for his draft rankings the first year FantasyPros tracked MLB expert accuracy on their site. White has continued to excel at season-long and dynasty Fantasy baseball and football formats.
Now, he's revealed his top waiver wire picks from among the widely available Fantasy football free agents entering Week 9. You can see his top Fantasy NFL waiver wire picks and full analysis over at SportsLine.
Top Fantasy football waiver wire picks for Week 9
One player White is advising Fantasy players to target on the Week 9 waiver wire: Browns wide receiver Cedric Tillman. Tillman was only targeted five times over the first six weeks of the season but since Amari Cooper was traded, he's been treated like an integral part of their plans moving forward. He was targeted 12 times last week and finished with eight catches for 81 yards and then had seven catches for 99 yards and two touchdowns with Jameis Winston moving into the starting role last week.
"Baltimore had to deal with multiple injuries in the secondary that contributed to the big passing day for Jameis Winston, but it's clear there's room for both these (Tillman and Elijah Moore) little-rostered players plus Jerry Jeudy and David Njoku (10 catches on 15 targets for 140 yards combined) to have some Fantasy relevance with the QB chance. I'm most excited about Tillman after back-to-back high-volume games."
White is also strongly recommending Winston if you're in the need of a quarterback on your Fantasy football roster. Clearly, it's a new day for the Browns offense with Winston at quarterback, and as Nick Chubb gets more comfortable taking on a bigger workload and forces defenses to contend with the Browns' rushing attack, the passing game should continue to open up for Winston. Against the Ravens, four different players had at least seven targets, with all four catching at least five passes and recording at least 60 receiving yards.
"Jameis Winston (14%) did more with the Browns offense in one start than Deshaun Watson has done in his time in Cleveland, leading the team to an upset of the Ravens while throwing three TDs and no interceptions," White told SportsLine. He also expressed some concern about the turnover-prone version of Winston returning against a tough stretch of the schedule but sees him as a viable streaming option for any manager who is in a tough spot at quarterback.
