Mariani agreed to a contract Monday with the Titans.
The Titans have plenty of familiarity with Mariani, who was a seventh-round pick by the franchise in 2010 and made the Pro Bowl during his rookie season as a return specialist. The Bears decided to cut Mariani after training camp and go in another direction in the return game, but the Titans evidently believe the 29-year-old still has some game-breaking ability. Tennessee released receiver Tre McBride to make roster room for Mariani, who figures to be deployed occasionally in four- or five-wideout sets in addition to taking over as the primary kickoff returner.
