Griffin got the start at safety opposite Harrison Smith in Sunday's preseason game, but left in the second quarter due to a back injury and was later seen leaving the locker room on crutches, ESPN 1500 am Twin Cities reports.
Griffin had one tackle before departing. He got the start in the third preseason game over Andrew Sendejo, but head coach Mike Zimmer indicated the competition for the second safety spot isn't decided. However, Griffin's injury could make Sendejo the starter if it's an issue for the start of the regular season.
