  • Mathieu (forearm) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Mathieu appeared to sustain a shoulder injury in the third quarter of the Saints' Week 13 win over the Rams. However, Wednesday's injury report clarified that the issue is with his forearm. With Mathieu's full participation Wednesday, it appears he's already moved past the injury. The veteran safety is expected to remain a key leader on New Orleans' defense in Sunday's matchup against the Giants.

  • Mathieu (shoulder) is questionable to return to Sunday's contest against the Rams. Mathieu checked out of the game in the third quarter after making a hard tackle on running back Kyren Williams, according to Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times-Picayune. The safety ultimately went into the medical tent per Johnson and has since returned to the sideline with his shoulder wrapped. In his Mathieu's absence, J.T. Gray and Jordan Howden stand to see an increase in workload at safety.

  • Saints' Tyrann Mathieu: Past illness
    By RotoWire

Mathieu (illness) was listed as a full practice participant Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Mathieu didn't practice Wednesday while battling an illness, but it appears he's over the issue as he was able to practice without limitations Thursday. Barring any setbacks, the 2013 third-round pick should be good to go for Sunday's game against the Panthers. Mathieu's two interceptions through eight regular-season outings is second most on the Saints behind Paulson Adebo (leg).

  • Mathieu (illness) did not practice Wednesday. Mathieu is working through an illness, which will impact his practice participation over the next two days. Even if he's limited Thursday and Friday, he should be able to suit up for Sunday's game against Carolina, though he could enter the game with an injury designation. Through the first eight games of the regular season, Mathieu has logged 33 tackles (26 solo), three passes defended, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

  • Coach Dennis Allen said Monday that he expects Mathieu (forearm) to play versus the Broncos on Thursday night, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Mathieu was forced out of Sunday's game versus the Buccaneers early by a wrist injury, but it's apparently not anything severe. If his coach's optimism proves to be misplaced, Johnathan Abram would be next in line at safety.
