• Browns' Stephen Weatherly: Placed on injured reserve

  Weatherly (knee) was placed on injured reserve by the Browns on Saturday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The veteran defensive end signed a one-year deal with the Browns in April, but he now will spend the year on IR, barring the team cutting him with an injury settlement. Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram noted that Weatherly will be undergoing surgery on his knee, with no timetable for his recovery mentioned by coach Kevin Stefanski.

  Weatherly signed a one-year contract with the Browns on Monday, Anthony Poisal of the team's official website reports. Weatherly was traded by the Vikings to the Broncos last season and registered 22 tackles and 2.5 sacks across 15 total appearances.   The Broncos activated Weatherly (undisclosed) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports. Weatherly was unavailable for Sunday's loss to the Chargers but should be back in action Saturday against Kansas City. He's totaled 11 tackles (six solo) and 1.5 sacks across his last five appearances.

  Weatherly (finger) won't play Sunday against the Buccaneers, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. Person adds that coach Matt Rhule expects Weatherly to be "out for a while," suggesting that the defensive end may also end up sitting out in Week 11 against the Lions and beyond. As long as Weatherly is out, Yetur Gross-Matos will likely fill his spot at defensive end, assuming the oft-injured rookie is able to stay on the field himself.

  Weatherly recorded 24 tackles and three sacks over 16 regular-season games. He added four tackles and another sack in the Vikings' two playoff games. Weatherly has now notched three sacks in both of the last two seasons. The 25-year-old could battle for an increased role along the defensive line if he re-signs with the Vikings and they move on from Everson Griffen, who will be an unrestricted free agent in March.
