• Giants' Jameis Winston: Ceding starting gig to McCarthy

  Winston is in line to serve as the Giants' backup quarterback Sunday against the Texans with the team planning to move forward with J.J. McCarthy as its starter in Week 7, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. After Jaxson Dart (knee) went down with a likely season-ending injury in a Week 2 loss to the Rams, Winston stepped in as the starter for the subsequent four games. Though Winston led the Giants to a respectable 2-1-1 record while completing 60.3 percent of his passes for 6.5 yards per attempt and a 7:4 TD:INT during that stretch, he had a rough showing in this past Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Saints before being pulled early in the fourth quarter. McCarthy proceeded to take over under center and nearly guided the Giants all the way back from a 24-point deficit, so he'll be rewarded with the starting nod for at least Week 7. Given that the 23-year-old McCarthy is a recent first-round pick who could have a longer-term future in New York or represent an appealing trade chip down the road, it wouldn't be surprising if he was given a long leash as the team's starter.

  Winston completed 14 of 26 passes for 152 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions before being benched in favor of J.J. McCarthy during Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Saints. After Winston's second INT of the game in the fourth quarter, he got the hook and watched McCarthy nearly lead a comeback from a 34-10 deficit. The performance by McCarthy could well earn him his first start as a Giant in Week 7 against the Texans, or coach John Harbaugh could stick with Winston for another week until re-evaluating the situation during the team's Week 8 bye. If Winston is back under center, he'll be sporting a 7:5 TD:INT through five games

  Jared Goff, Kirk Cousins and Kyler Murray have all scored at least 20.3 Fantasy points against the Saints this season, and Winston should be in a similar range in Week 6. He's worth using as a low-end starter in all leagues. Winston comes into Week 6 having scored at least 24 Fantasy points in consecutive games against Arizona and Washington. It's not always pretty with Winston -- he had two interceptions against the Cardinals and a mediocre first half against the Commanders -- but when he's on, he's capable of a solid Fantasy performance. Ideally, this is a shootout between Winston and Tyler Shough, and it's also a revenge game for Winston, who spent four years in New Orleans from 2020 to 2023.

  Winston comes into Week 6 against New Orleans having scored at least 24 Fantasy points in consecutive games against Arizona and Washington. It's not always pretty with Winston, but when he's on, he's capable of solid Fantasy performances. The schedule gets tougher after facing the Saints with Houston in Week 7, a bye in Week 8 and Philadelphia in Week 9, but Winston is worth trusting as a low-end starter in all leagues. He should be added for up to 5 percent of your remaining FAAB.

  Winston completed 33 of 54 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 27-27 tie against the Commanders. He also rushed five times for 27 yards and lost a fumble. The Giants struggled on the ground for most of the game and played from behind after Washington scored a touchdown two minutes into the game, so Winston racked up impressive volume, including 20 targets to Malik Nabers and 13 to Isaiah Likely, who had 11 catches apiece for a combined 215 yards and three touchdowns. Winston connected with Likely from three yards out in the third quarter before throwing a 17-yard touchdown apiece to Likely and Nabers in the fourth quarter as the Giants came back from a 19-6 second-half deficit. Both teams had a chance to win it in OT, but the Giants had a missed field goal and fumble in field-goal range, while Washington countered with a time-management snafu in the final seconds that resulted in a tie, which brings New York's record to 3-1-1 ahead of a Week 6 home game against the Saints.
