Hyder was signed to the Texans' practice squad on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Hyder, 32, was released by the 49ers last week. He rejoins head coach DeMeco Ryans, who previously served as Hyder's defensive coordinator in San Francisco.

The 49ers released Hyder on Friday, per the team's official site. San Francisco acquired Randy Gregory from the Broncos in a trade Friday and therefore needed to open up a spot on the roster. Hyder was consequently let go after logging one tackle (a sack) over the team's first four games. The veteran has recorded 22 sacks in his NFL career and may now seek an opportunity elsewhere.

Hyder and the 49ers agreed to a contract Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Hyder will return to San Francisco for a second consecutive season after he produced 19 tackles, including a sack, while recording three pass deflections and a fumble recovery over 16 games last year. The defensive lineman will likely operate as a top option behind Nick Bosa again in 2023.

Hyder (ankle) has been deemed inactive ahead of Saturday's game versus the Commanders, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. Hyder will miss his first game of the season due to a lingering ankle injury picked up during the Week 14 win over Tampa Bay. The seventh-year defensive end has played a rotational role for San Francisco's dangerous pass rush this season. With Drake Jackson (coach's decision) also inactive Saturday, Charles Omenihu and Jordan Willis should be in line for increased usage behind Nick Bosa and Samson Ebukam.

San Francisco signed Hyder to a one-year, $1.5 million contract Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Hyder previously spent the 2020 season with the 49ers, so he boasts experience in the team's defensive scheme. The veteran defensive end logged 15 appearances in Seattle last year, where he was limited to 33 total tackles and 1.5 sacks.
