  • Adrian Phillips: Released by New England
    By RotoWire

The Patriots plan to release Phillips on Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. The veteran safety was headed into the final year of a four-year, $12.75 million deal with New England. With his release, the Patriots will clear $3 million in cap space, leaving behind over $1.18 million in dead-cap hit. Phillips didn't miss a single game in his four years with the team but was demoted to backup duties last season, playing just 12 percent of the Patriots' defensive snaps while mainly focusing on special teams.

  • Phillips (ribs) has a chance to play Sunday against the Steelers, Jordan Schultz of TheScore.com reports. Phillips suffered the injury during the first half of the Patriots' Week 1 loss to the Dolphins. However, the team is "cautiously optimistic" about his chances to suit up Sunday. If Phillips is unable to play, Jabrill Peppers will likely see extra opportunities against the Steelers.

  • Phillips (knee) is questionable for Saturday against the Bills. Phillips has logged a limited practice every day this week, and he's been questionable with a knee issue for previous games this season. He still suited up in all 17 contests and should probably be expected to play Saturday. However, if he can't go, it'll be a significant blow to the Patriots' secondary and will likely lead to extra opportunity for Justin Bethel.

  • Phillips had seven tackles (four solo) during Saturday's 27-17 loss to the Colts. Phillips recovered from the knee injury in time to take the field Saturday and played 81 percent of the defensive snaps. The 29-year-old has 71 tackles (42 solo), four interceptions, one forced fumble and one touchdown in 14 games this season.

  • Phillips notched three tackles (one solo), two pass breakups and two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, during Sunday's 27-24 win over the Chargers. Phillips earned AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance against Justin Herbert and his former team. The cornerback, who spent the first six years of his career with the Chargers, now sits at three interceptions on the season. He recorded the first pick-six of his career in the fourth quarter, when he intercepted Herbert and returned the ball for a 26-yard score.
