Lock stepped up in relief after Darnold was hurt in the first quarter of Wednesday's season opener, as the backup guided the Seahawks to a 13-10 win over the Patriots while finishing the game with 187 passing yards and one touchdown. Darnold hasn't officially been ruled out for Week 2, but the Seahawks are likely to take a cautious approach with their starting QB since the strength of Seattle's team is the defense, so Lock is in good position to hold the fort effectively while Darnold recovers. Lock has a 10-18 career regular-season record as a starter.

Lock unsurprisingly took some time to get going, with his first six possessions netting just 95 total yards and zero points. However, the veteran signal-caller finally got into a rhythm late in the third quarter and led Seattle to its 13 points, the final 10 coming after Drake Maye's first two interceptions. Lock also picked up his connection with Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the second half, hitting the star wideout for a 45-yard touchdown that knotted the game at 10 early in the fourth quarter. While Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports that head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed a fracture has been ruled out for Darnold, it's still possible Lock is under center for a Week 2 road matchup against the Cardinals on Sunday, Sept. 20.

  Lock is poised to remain the backup QB behind Sam Darnold (oblique) after the latter was deemed active for Saturday's divisional-round game against the 49ers, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports. Darnold's status for Seattle's postseason opener came into question after he made an early exit from Thursday's practice due to an oblique injury. Both Darnold and coach Mike Macdonald remained confident that the quarterback would be able to suit up, but in the meantime Lock was getting the first-team reps, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Now that Darnold is active and Jalen Milroe is inactive as the emergency third quarterback, Lock will settle back into his normal role.

  The Seahawks expect that Sam Darnold (oblique) will start in Saturday's NFC divisional-round tilt against the 49ers, but Lock has been taking reps with the first-team offense the last two days and would be ready to play if the former were to be sidelined, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Darnold has not thrown a football since undergoing treatment for an oblique injury during Thursday's practice. Head coach Mike Macdonald expressed optimism Friday that Darnold would be available for Saturday's game, per Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic. That said, Lock -- who has not started in a game since Week 18 of the 2024 season as a member of the Giants -- would take the helm if Darnold were to be ruled out or injured during the contest.
