• Panthers' Rico Dowdle: Over 40 scrimmage yards in win

  Dowdle rushed nine times for 29 yards and brought in four of six targets for 14 yards in the Panthers' 23-20 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday. Dowdle outpaced Chuba Hubbard by just three carries and two rushing yards, as both backs had a predictably difficult time versus the Buccaneers' typically stingy run defense. With Sunday's production, Dowdle did exceed 1,000 rushing yards for the second consecutive campaign, but he's been at 58 rushing yards or fewer in six consecutive games heading into a Week 17 home matchup against a tough Seahawks defense.

  Dowdle hasn't run well lately with his yards per carry at 3.2 or less in four of his past five games. Thankfully, his Fantasy production has remained constant with at least 11.4 PPR points in five of his past six outings. He also has at least 17 total touches in five of his past six games, and he should get plenty of work again in Week 16 against Tampa Bay. Chuba Hubbard will also have a role, and the Panthers will probably lean on both guys in this matchup. The Buccaneers are No. 10 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs, and six guys in the past five games against Tampa Bay have scored at least 11.4 PPR points. Dowdle should be considered a No. 2 Fantasy running back in all leagues, and I like Hubbard as a low-end flex.

  Dowdle rushed the ball 16 times for 49 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Saints. He added one reception on one target for five yards. Dowdle reclaimed the lead-back role in Carolina, out-touching Chuba Hubbard 17-9. However, he found very limited room to run, with his longest gain going for only eight yards while averaging under 4.0 yards per carry for the fourth time in his last five games. Dowdle did manage to save his day with a four-yard touchdown midway through the first quarter, his first time reaching the end zone since Week 10. Overall, Dowdle has failed to reach 100 yards from scrimmage in four of his last five games despite seeing at least 17 touches in all but one matchup in that span.

  It's slightly risky to trust Dowdle heading into Week 15 at New Orleans because the last time we saw the Panthers in Week 13 against the Rams, Chuba Hubbard was the best running back with 17 carries for 83 yards and two catches for 41 yards and a touchdown on two targets. But Dowdle still had 18 carries for 58 yards and two catches for 21 yards on two targets. Dowdle is expected to remain the lead running back of this tandem, and I would still start him as a No. 2 running back in all leagues. He had 18 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown and three catches for 10 yards on three targets against the Saints in Week 10, and New Orleans has allowed a running back to score at least 12.7 PPR points in five games in a row. As for Hubbard, he's worth using as a flex, and hopefully both running backs are productive in this game.

  Interest in Dowdle has plummeted due to Chuba Hubbard's increased role in Week 13. But Dowdle still had 20 touches in that game. The Panthers have gone to a run-heavy approach and are 2.5-point favorites at New Orleans this week. If they are playing with the lead Dowdle and Hubbard could combine for 35 rush attempts.
