• Bears' Caleb Williams: Produces four TDs in huge Week 1 win

  Williams completed 21 of 29 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns while carrying the ball 10 times for 65 yards and two more TDs in Sunday's 59-37 win over the Panthers. In the highest-scoring Week 1 game in NFL history, Williams led the Bears on nine separate scoring drives, tossing touchdowns to Cole Kmet in the second quarter and Jahdae Walker in the fourth while adding rushing scores of his own in the first and second quarters. The third-year QB produced a career-high 30 touchdowns in 2025, 27 through the air and three on the ground, but he may be poised to shatter that mark in 2026. Williams will face a likely tougher test at home in Week 2 against the Vikings.

• Bears' Caleb Williams: Coach talks him up

  Coach Ben Johnson lauded Williams' approach Tuesday as the quarterback enters his third NFL campaign, Larry Mayer of the Bears' official site reports. "He's executing at a much higher clip than he ever has, and I think it's going to continue to grow," Johnson said. "He's going to continue to elevate everyone around him, coaches included." Williams played just one possession during exhibition season, leading the Bears to a Cairo Santos field goal to kick off preseason Week 2 at Cincinnati. The performance (2-for-5 passing for 28 yards, no TDs and no interceptions) was nothing to write home about, but Williams is set to take another step forward in his development in 2026. There are two question marks within Chicago's skill positions as Week 1 approaches: RB Kyle Monangai is attempting to put a hyperextended knee behind him, while WR Luther Burden is continuing his recovery from an early August groin injury. Having said that, Williams still has the healthy trio of RB D'Andre Swift, WR Rome Odunze and TE Colston Loveland at his services, so the QB's first 4,000-yard season through the air may be on the horizon.

• Bears' Caleb Williams: Could play Saturday

  Williams is in uniform in advance of Saturday's preseason game in Cincinnati, Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune reports. After sitting out Chicago's exhibition opener, Williams now appears set to make his preseason debut. His participation is notable for the Bears' first-team offense, especially with WRs Rome Odunze and Kalif Raymond and TEs Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet also suited up.

• Bears' Caleb Williams: Comes on late in Week 18 loss

  Williams completed 20 of 33 passes for 212 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while rushing once for one yard in the Bears' 19-16 loss to the Lions on Sunday. He also threw a two-point conversion pass. Williams couldn't lead the Bears to any points in the first three quarters, but he helped Chicago's offense come alive in the fourth to make things interesting. Williams particularly had his connection with rookie tight end Colston Loveland clicking, as the latter was on the receiving end of 10 of Williams' completions, 91 receiving yards and one of his two touchdowns, from one yard out. Williams also connected with Jahdae Walker from 25 yards out early in the fourth quarter, finishing with a pair of TD tosses for the fifth straight game to close out the campaign. Williams undeniably took a step forward in his first season under the tutelage of head coach Ben Johnson while throwing for 3,942 yards and posting a 27:7 TD:INT, but he'll need to achieve more quarter-to-quarter consistency for the Bears to succeed in the postseason beginning with next weekend's home wild-card matchup against the Packers.

  I had Williams as a start quarterback in Start 'Em & Sit 'Em for Week 17, and I wrote that it would be fun if Ben Johnson gave Williams the chance to become the first quarterback in franchise history to pass for 4,000 yards. He was 600 yards away prior to facing the 49ers, and he passed for a season-high 330 in San Francisco to make it possible in Week 18. Now, Williams gets the chance to do it against the Lions, who are No. 10 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks, and three quarterbacks in the past six games against Detroit have passed for at least 366 yards. Williams scored 20.9 Fantasy points in Week 2 at Detroit, and he has scored at least 22.9 Fantasy points in three games in a row. The Bears have the chance to lock up the No. 2 seed in the NFC, and Williams should lead the way. He's a top-10 Fantasy quarterback in all leagues in Week 18.
