Davis rushed once for four yards while catching all three of his targets for 28 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 26-21 loss to the Seahawks. Davis got more opportunities in practice coming out of New York's Week 12 bye since Breece Hall missed practice reps due to a knee injury. The rookie out of South Dakota State capitalized on the field Sunday, scoring his first NFL touchdown on a four-yard shovel pass in the second quarter. Davis also set a career high with four touches on offense, though that was third-most among Jets running backs behind Hall (12) and Braelon Allen (seven). While Davis showed some promise as a pass catcher in this game, he'll be tough to trust from a fantasy standpoint as long as both Hall and Allen are available.

Davis rushed four times for eight yards and caught all four of his targets for 33 yards in Saturday's 20-17 preseason win over the Commanders. He added a 29-yard kickoff return and two punt returns for six yards. Davis was the second running back to enter the game for the Jets after fellow rookie Braelon Allen got the start, with Breece Hall resting on the sideline. While Davis didn't do much on the ground, he flashed some decent pass-catching skills and showcased his versatility by contributing on special teams. It's also significant that the 2024 fifth-round draft pick checked into the game before 2023 fifth-round pick Israel Abanikanda, who entered in the third quarter and scored a two-yard touchdown in the fourth. Holding off Abanikanda for the third spot on the depth chart is Davis' easiest path to securing a roster spot, and how these two perform in next Saturday's preseason game against the Panthers could help determine the outcome of that competition.

Davis has been receiving steady snaps with the Jets' starting offense during OTAs, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports. Breece Hall's minor lower-body injury has opened up opportunities for Davis, a fifth-round pick, as well as rookie fourth-round pick Braelon Allen. Hughes further revealed that Allen has also made a good early impression, with his receiving work in particular being a pleasant surprise after he had only 275 receiving yards in three seasons as the lead back for Wisconsin. The two rookies seem to be competing with 2023 fifth-round pick Israel Abanikanda for the second spot on the depth chart, a role that probably won't come with many snaps or touches unless Hall misses time. The Jets also have Tarik Cohen as a potential passing-down specialist, though special teams might offer his more realistic path to a roster spot

The Jets selected Davis in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 173rd overall. Davis becomes the second running back drafted by the Jets during Day 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft and joins presumed top backup Israel Abanikanda as the second running back drafted by the team in the fifth round in consecutive years. Davis was the catalyst for South Dakota State's back-to-back national championship stretch, tallying 3,029 combined yards on the ground and 33 touchdowns over the past two seasons. He doesn't provide much in the passing game, and it's unclear if his 4.57 speed will translate to the NFL level, but the 22-year-old is at least an intriguing candidate to push for snaps in a loaded Jets backfield.
