Fromm signed with the Lions' practice squad Wednesday. Fromm failed to make Detroit's initial 53-man roster Tuesday, but he's now been brought back as a practice-squad player. The Georgia product last saw regular-season action in 2021 with the Giants, when he threw for 210 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions across three games.

The Commanders signed Fromm from their practice squad to their active roster Saturday. Fromm had been on Washington's practice squad all season, and he hasn't gotten into a regular-season NFL game since 2021. The Commanders announced a quarterback change from Sam Howell to Jacoby Brissett mid-week, but Brissett has since picked up a hamstring injury and is a game-time call for Sunday's contest versus San Francisco. If Brissett is unable to suit up in the Week 17 matchup, Fromm figures to serve as Howell's backup.

Fromm was waived by the Commanders on Tuesday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Fromm was working to beat out Jacoby Brissett for the team's No. 2 quarterback position, or at least convince them to keep three, but ultimately he was unable to do so. The Georgia product will now hope to land a practice squad spot.
