  • Bellinger caught his only target for three yards in Sunday's loss to the Vikings. Bellinger was listed as New York's No. 1 tight end on the team's first unofficial depth chart during the preseason and split first-team reps with rookie Theo Johnson throughout training camp, but he was clearly behind Johnson in the pecking order Sunday. While Bellinger logged just 16 offensive snaps (23 percent of the team's total), Johnson tallied 61 (86 percent), and even Chris Manhertz (20 offensive snaps) was on the field more often than Bellinger. Manhertz played primarily in two-TE sets and does most of his work as a blocker, so he's not a threat to Bellinger's playing time, but for the time being it appears that the Giants prefer Johnson as the starter over Bellinger at the position.

  • Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that Bellinger has been limited during spring practices due to an undisclosed injury, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Bellinger's outlook for 2024 improved earlier this week after incumbent starter Darren Waller announced his retirement Monday, leaving Bellinger as the tentative No. 1 option on the depth chart at tight end. The Giants also have rookie fourth-round pick Theo Johnson as a potential receiving threat at the position, but Bellinger should handle most of the first-team reps at the start of training camp. Daboll downplayed the injury Wednesday, so he seemingly expects Bellinger to be ready to go for camp.

  • Bellinger finished Sunday's loss to the Rams with four catches on four targets for 39 yards. Darren Waller logged more targets (six), catches (five) and yards (51) than Bellinger, but the latter still had a reasonably productive performance. Bellinger's longest catch went for 18 yards, and he also had a 14-yard reception that he immediately followed with a nine-yard catch on the following play. Waller has undoubtedly been the better fantasy asset when healthy this season, but Bellinger has come on strong even with Waller able to suit up over the past two weeks, putting up an 8-82-0 line on nine targets. The Giants have little to play for in their season finale against Philadelphia next weekend, so the team could opt to relax the veteran Waller's workload, which could benefit Bellinger to some extent against a defense that has been middle-of-the-pack against tight ends this season.

  • Bellinger caught both of his targets or 13 yards in Sunday's 24-6 Week 15 loss to New Orleans. Bellinger worked as New York's starting tight end while Waller was on IR with a hamstring injury between Week 9 and Week 14, but he returned to a backup role with the latter returning Sunday. Bellinger averaged a modest 2.2 receptions for 27.6 yards during his five-game starting stint, and he wasn't far off those numbers while working behind Waller against the Saints. Waller appeared to come out of the contest in good health, so Bellinger should again see limited receiving opportunities next Monday against the Eagles.

  • Bellinger caught both of his targets for 15 yards Monday in a 24-22 win over the Packers. Bellinger saw modest opportunity in the contest, but he still finished third on the Giants in receiving yards. The second-year tight end continues to fill in for the injured Darren Waller (hamstring, IR), though Bellinger hasn't come close to matching Waller's pass-catching prowess, as he hasn't surpassed three receptions in any game so far this season. Waller ran routes on the field earlier this week, and if he is able to return to the action before the end of the campaign, Bellinger's opportunities as a receiver would logically shrink.
