Andrew Luck: Not expected to return for 2020
Colts general manager Chris Ballard doesn't expect Andrew Luck to come out of retirement, Stephen Holder of The Athletic reports. "Look, Andrew's retired," Ballard said. "I haven't talked to him in a few weeks. I think he's busy being a father. But Andrew's retired. I think we all need to accept that."Ballard is ending the conversation before it can start, seemingly focused on other options to improve his team's quarterback situation. Luck stays in touch with some of his former coworkers, but he hasn't given any indication of planning a return to football.

Colts' Andrew Luck: Moved to reserve/retired list
The Indianapolis Colts placed Andrew Luck (calf/ankle) on the reserve/retired list Sunday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. This backs up Luck's comments on the record from Saturday evening, namely that he's "going to retire." While this hypothetical is unlikely for a variety of reasons, he would have to pass through waivers unclaimed to return to the Colts if he wanted to play at some point this season. With the transaction official, the Colts will move on with Jacoby Brissett as their starting quarterback.

Colts' Andrew Luck: Announces retirement
Andrew Luck (calf/ankle) announced his retirement from the NFL on Saturday. "I am going to retire. This is the hardest decision of my life," he said. He added that a four-year cycle of injuries and rehab have "taken my joy of this game away."After suiting up for all 16 games in each of his first three pro seasons, Luck missed 26 contests over the ensuing three campaigns before playing a full slate yet again in 2018. However, with additional injury concerns plaguing him this offseason, training camp and preseason, he's made the decision to call it a career. The Indianapolis Colts will turn to Jacoby Brissett to run the offense moving forward.

Colts' Andrew Luck: Staying busy despite no practice
Andrew Luck (calf/ankle) hasn't practiced since July 28, but he's been a regular participant in walk-through sessions and has been working with throwing specialist Tom House, Stephen Holder of The Athletic reports.Luck has stayed busy during his absence from practice, with the recent work including an on-field workout prior to Saturday's preseason loss to the Browns. He's already been ruled out of practice through the end of this week, but the Indianapolis Colts remain optimistic about having him ready for Week 1 at Los Angeles. Given that he's still dealing with pain, Luck may not have his usual mobility if he does in fact make it back for the opener. For what it's worth, top wideout T.Y. Hilton said he isn't at all worried about the situation, and coach Frank Reich suggested Luck's mental preparation shouldn't be impacted by the absence from live practices. In the meantime, Jacoby Brissett will quarterback the first-team offense in Saturday's preseason matchup with the Bears.

Colts' Andrew Luck: Won't practice this week
Andrew Luck (calf/ankle) will not practice this week, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.Per the report, a "combination of full-speed movement and pain threshold" is what's keeping the QB from practicing at this stage. Luck's workout in advance of this past Saturday's preseason game against the Browns provided some promising optics, but the fact that he's not practicing this week doesn't exactly help his chances of being ready to start the Indianapolis Colts' regular-season opener. As long as Luck is sidelined, Jacoby Brissett will handle the first-team QB reps.

Colts' Andrew Luck: Works out before Saturday's game
Andrew Luck (calf/ankle) displayed decent mobility during a workout before Saturday's preseason game against the Browns, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.Among the drills, Luck moved side-to-side, stepped over bags, and set his feet before making throws, per Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis. While the optics of the activity are obvious, the Indianapolis Colts likely wouldn't have allowed Luck to work out in such a fashion if his left calf and ankle couldn't handle it. His next step will be to take the practice field in some capacity before next Saturday's exhibition versus the Bears. After that game, coach Frank Reich is expected to make a decision on the Week 1 starting quarterback between Luck and backup Jacoby Brissett.

Colts' Andrew Luck: Hopeful for Week 1 appearance
The Indianapolis Colts have "guarded optimism" regarding Andrew Luck's (calf/ankle) ability to be ready for Week 1 against the Chargers in Los Angeles, Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports.Luck will have to make quick progress with his injury, which initially was termed a strained calf but also involves a high-ankle issue. The reason? Coach Frank Reich wants to make a decision on his starting quarterback for the regular-season opener after the Colts' third preseason game on Aug. 24. Upcoming practices may go a long way to determining whether Luck is on pace for game action on Sept. 8, but the veteran signal-caller hasn't practiced in weeks. If Luck is deemed unable to play Week 1, Reich will turn to Jacoby Brissett under center.

Colts' Andrew Luck: Week 1 decision up in air
Coach Frank Reich would like to make a decision on the Week 1 starting quarterback between Andrew Luck (calf/ankle) and Jacoby Brissett after the Indianapolis Colts' third preseason game Aug. 24 against the Bears, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.Because general manager Chris Ballard is of the belief that Luck won't make an appearance during the exhibition slate, the veteran signal-caller will likely have to return to practice and make significant progress to gain the Colts' confidence. Previously diagnosed with a strained left calf, Luck is also tending to a high-ankle issue, a combination that has allowed for just three training-camp practices to date. While Luck focuses on rehabilitation, the Colts will continue to give Brissett first-team reps in the event he's needed to play once the regular season begins.

Colts' Andrew Luck: Not expected to play in preseason
Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard doesn't expect Andrew Luck (calf/ankle) to play in the preseason, Mike Wells of ESPN.com reports.Per the report, injury rehab will be the focus for Luck, and the QB "will need to get in a certain amount of practice time in order to be ready for the start of the regular season." Meanwhile, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin relays that the Colts "believe once they get (Luck's) ankle pain under control, things will progress quickly." In any case, there's no concrete timetable for the signal-caller's return to practice, and it can't be considered a lock that he'll be ready in time for Week 1. While Luck's situation plays out, Jacoby Brissett will continue to handle the Colts' first-team QB reps.
