Melvin White was released by the Minnesota Vikings, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.Minnesota has a deep secondary, but it's still a mild surprise he was released this early in training camp. White did miss part of training camp with an undisclosed injury.

Panthers cut seven, place WR Benjamin on IR
The Carolina Panthers reached the NFL's 75-man limit Tuesday thanks to a series of moves, including placing star wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin on the season-ending injured reserve list with a knee injury, per a team release. Carolina waived WR Jarrett Boykin, DT Kenny Horsley, S Robert Lester and WR De'Andre Presley, placed OT Davonte Wallace and CB Melvin White on the waived/injured list and reached an injury settlement with DT Micanor Regis.

The Carolina Panthers will have Corey Brown, Thomas DeCoud and Melvin White on Saturday against the Seahawks. All three players entered the game listed as questionable. Two questionable for Panthers with Sunday game looming
Defensive end Charles Johnson (hip) is one of two Carolina Panthers deemed questionable for the Sunday battle against visiting Chicago. The other is tight end Ed Dickson, who is also dealing with a hip issue. Ruled out are tight end Richie Brockel (ankle) and running back DeAngelo Williams. Fellow running back Jonathan Stewart (knee) is doubtful while linebacker Thomas Davis (hip), cornerback Melvin White (thigh) and running back Fozzy Whittaker (thigh) are all probable.

Panthers defense has quality performance
The Carolina Panthers defense played well Sunday in Week 17 at Atlanta, highlighted by nine sacks in a 21-20 victory. The leader of the defense was Greg Hardy with four sacks. Charles Johnson also added two sacks. Melvin White also had an interception for a touchdown. The Panthers are off until the Divisional Round of the playoffs. They locked up the No. 2 seed in the NFC and a first-round bye after winning the NFC South title.
