Don't overlook Edwin Baker in 2014

Many observers expect the Cleveland Browns to add a starting running back through free agency or the draft, but ESPNCleveland.com notes Edwin Baker finished strong last season and "left a favorable impression with his quick-to-the-hole, north-south running style." Baker started the final three games, running for 171 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 4.0 yards per carry. He caught eight passes for 57 yards. The 250th overall pick in the 2012 draft, Baker saw his first NFL action in Week 14 last year. He seems like a good fit for Kyle Shanahan's one-cut, zone-blocking running scheme.

Edwin Baker solid in last game

Cleveland Browns running back Edwin Baker received plenty of work in Week 17 against the Steelers, but didn't exactly set the world on fire in a 20-7 loss. Baker rushed the ball 18 times and added a pair of receptions, but finished with just 68 yards of total offense. He racked up 69 yards on the ground, but lost one yard on his pair of receptions. Baker only played in the final three games of the season for the Browns due to injuries. He finished with 171 yards on 43 carries, while scoring twice.

Edwin Baker looking to continue roll

After scoring in consecutive games and earning a role as the featured back, Cleveland Browns running back Edwin Baker enters Week 17 as the flavor of the week. Can he continue his run of solid play Sunday, in a season finale against the Steelers? The Steelers have been just a middle-of- the-road team against the run this season, allowing 17.8 Fantasy points against them. Opposing backs have accounted for 18 touchdowns against Pittsburgh, however, a good sign for Baker's chances of continuing his scoring streak. The Browns have little to play for, so they should be looking to see what they have in the 22-year-old. After picking up 17 carries last week, he could see a similar workload yet again this Sunday. Consider him a solid low-end starting option for Week 17.

Edwin Baker gives Browns ground game bit of a spark

The Cleveland Browns are probably not banking on practice squad pickup Edwin Baker as their featured back of the future, but at least he has provided a semblance of a ground game in the last two weeks. He rushed for a career-high 64 yards on 17 carries Sunday againt a strong Jets run defense. He showed a burst through holes no Browns back has displayed in 2013 and added two receptions for 12 yards. Baker also scored his second touchdown in two games as the starter, a 5-yard bolt untouched through the middle that gave his team a short-lived 10-0 lead in the second quarter. Baker performed better as the game progressed. He managed just 17 yards on eight attempts before erupting for 47 yards in his last nine tries through steady production. He will likely remain the starter when the Browns conclude their season in Week 17 at Pittsburgh.
