Chiefs' Brock Vereen: Claimed off waivers by Kansas City

The Kansas City Chiefs have claimed Brock Vereen off waivers, ESPN's Field Yates reports. In a bizarre series of events, Vereen initially retired from the NFL on Monday while he was a Patriot. Then, on Tuesday, he was reinstated from New England's reserve/retirement list only to be released from the team shortly thereafter, and was subsequently thrown into the league's waiver system. Now, on Wednesday, Vereen is officially a member of the Chiefs as Kansas City had been awarded the defensive back from said waiver system, although it's unknown how many teams actually placed a claim for him. He isn't a lock to crack the Chiefs' active roster, but if he can impress in limited action, Vereen could slide in as a depth option in the Chiefs' talented secondary sans Sean Smith.

    Brock Vereen: Retires from NFL

Brock Vereen has retired from the NFL, the TwinCities.com-Pioneer Press reports. This announcement comes as a surprise, as Vereen, who latched on with the Patriots this offseason, was reportedly having an impressive preseason. He didn't provide any rationale for how he came to make the decision to call it quits, but his career is likely over after being selected by the Bears in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Vereen racked up 38 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble in 16 games during his rookie season, but lasted just three weeks into the 2015 campaign before getting cut.

    Chicago lands Brock Vereen

With the 131st pick in the draft, the Chicago Bears selected Minnesota safety Brock Vereen . Vereen played both corner and safety during his college career. He was recognized as a strong leader, and has all the intangibles coaches love. Given the Bears weakness at the position, Vereen has a chance to play if he can adjust during camp.
