Raiders' Christian Wilkins: Goes on IR as expected
Christian Wilkins (foot) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.Wilkins' move to IR shouldn't come as a surprise as he already underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a Jones Fracture in his foot. The Clemson product is expected to be facing an extended absence, although a firm timeline isn't yet available. His placement on injured reserve will guarantee he misses at least the Las Vegas Raiders' next four games though.

Raiders' Christian Wilkins: Out indefinitely with foot injury
Christian Wilkins underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a Jones Fracture in his foot that he sustained in Sunday's loss to the Broncos, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.Wilkins injured his foot in the first half of Sunday's game and remained in the locker room after halftime. It's a devastating blow for the Las Vegas Raiders, who signed Wilkins to a four-year, $110 million contract in March to reinforce their defensive line alongside All-Pro Maxx Crosby and veteran John Jenkins. Wilkins will eventually be placed on injured reserve, and while he hasn't been ruled out for the year, a return won't likely happen until much later in the regular season. Adam Butler has been the Raiders' top rotational defensive tackle this season, and he should slide into Wilkins' starting spot from here on out.

Raiders' Christian Wilkins: Should be good to go Sunday
Christian Wilkins (knee) is expected to be available for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.Wilkins was tagged as quesitonable Friday after he was limited all week in practice with a knee issue. The 28-year-old totaled nine tackles while playing nearly every defensive snap over the first two weeks of the season. If Wilkins isn't available or doesn't play quite as many snaps Sunday, Nesta Jade Silvera and/or Adam Butler could stand to see more playing time versus Carolina.

Raiders' Christian Wilkins: To call Las Vegas home
Christian Wilkins is slated to sign a four-year, $110 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.Wilkins will immediately form one of the league's most dangerous pass-rush tandems alongside Maxx Crosby in Las Vegas, giving the Raiders one of the most intimidating defensive fronts in the league. The Dolphins opted not to franchise tag Wilkins after he broke out with 65 total tackles (10 for loss), 9.0 sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in 2023, and the contract now offered to him by Las Vegas is clearly one Miami couldn't have matched. The 28-year-old is one of the few interior defenders in the NFL to truly boast an ability to thrive as both a run stuffer and pass rusher, making him a premier fantasy asset in IDP formats that require starting DTs.

Dolphins' Christian Wilkins: Franchise tag deadline passes
The Miami Dolphins did not place the franchise tag on Christian Wilkins ahead of Tuesday's 4:00 p.m. EST deadline, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. The defensive tackle will hit free agency for the first time in his NFL career, after putting together his best season to date in 2023. While playing 17 games for a third straight campaign, Wilkins racked up 65 total tackles including 9.0 sacks, plus one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries, as he thrived both rushing quarterbacks and stuffing running backs. The fact that Wilkins didn't receive the franchise tag doesn't preclude Miami from re-signing him, but it seems almost guaranteed he'll be offered a contract on the open market sizable enough that the cap-strapped Dolphins can't match it.

Dolphins' Christian Wilkins: Not expected to be tagged
The Miami Dolphins are not expected to franchise tag Christian Wilkins by Tuesday's 4:00 p.m. ET deadline, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.Wilkins will immediately become one of the top free agents on the market if Miami indeed opts not to place the franchise tag on him. That won't necessarily mean Wilkins' future with the Dolphins is over, but given that the 28-year-old DT is coming of a career-best season in which he produced 65 total tackles (10 for a loss), 9.0 sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries, a team around the league could reasonably offer a contract that Miami can't match. Wilkins is one of the few interior defenders in the NFL to boast a truly complete combination of run-stuffing and pass-rushing aptitude.

Dolphins' Christian Wilkins: Stellar in final year of contract
Christian Wilkins notched 65 tackles (38 solo), including a career-high 9.0 sacks, two pass breakups, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries across 17 regular-season appearances in 2023.Wilkins had a quiet finish to the season with just three assisted tackles during Saturday's wild-card playoff loss to the Chiefs, but that doesn't undermine the fact that he put together a career year to cap his rookie contract. The Miami Dolphins will be in a precarious position this offseason, with Tua Tagovailoa entering the fifth year of his rookie deal, potentially making Wilkins a franchise tag candidate. It's difficult to imagine Miami letting Wilkins walk, but his franchise tag would carry a $19.7 million salary, and the team has little room to maneuver barring future restructures.
