Giants' Cam Skattebo: Says he's ready for camp

Cam Skattebo (ankle) said Sunday that he's "ready to go" for training camp, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports.Skattebo -- who indicated that he is "perfectly fine" after appearing to land awkwardly while doing a backflip during an appearance at Fanatics Fest this past weekend -- said "I feel great" and that "the last two weeks of my training have felt the most normal, it's been excellent." The second-year pro got back on the field for team drills late during mandatory minicamp in June, and it sounds like he'll enter training camp at near 100 percent health from ankle surgery undergone last October. Skattebo and other veterans will report for New York Giants training camp July 28, with rookies kicking things off July 23. Once he's fully cleared, Skattebo is expected to reclaim the lead role in New York's backfield, which also houses Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Expected for early camp work

Cam Skattebo (ankle) is expected to be ready be a participant early on in training camp, according to coach John Harbaugh, NFL.com reports.Skattebo is bouncing back from surgery to address a dislocated ankle that he suffered Week 8 of last season, but the running back is reportedly on track in terms of his recovery, a notion supported by the fact that he was able to take part in some 11-on-11 drills in a limited fashion during last month's minicamp. Once he's fully cleared for on-field work, Skattebo will be in a position to reestablish himself as the top option in a New York Giants backfield that also includes fellow returnees Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary. The team's first open training camp practice will be held July 30.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Confident in rehab from injury

Cam Skattebo (ankle) said last week that he's confident he'll come back strong from his rehab and "get back [to] running people over," NFL.com's Bobby Kownack reports.Skattebo also said he won't let "this little ankle thing" bother him, promising "normal Cam Skattebo" when he gets back on the field. He's now eight months removed from surgery, after suffering a dislocated ankle, fractured tibia and ruptured deltoid ligament in October. It's the type of injury that can seriously impact a player's speed and explosion long after he's gained medical clearance, but Skattebo has youth (24 years old) working in his favor and seems to be advancing through the rehab process as fast as anyone reasonably could've hoped for. He even took part in some 11-on-11s during June minicamp, albeit on a limited basis. The next major step is to gain clearance for training camp, where the New York Giants' new coaching staff will work with a backfield that looks nearly identical to last year's. Tyrone Tracy, Devin Singletary, Eric Gray and Dante Miller are all still with the team, though only Tracy likely represents any kind of threat to Skattebo's usage.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Doing 11-on-11 drills Tuesday

Cam Skattebo (ankle) is participating in team drills at Tuesday's practice, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. After doing individual work at Monday's minicamp practice, Skattebo graduated to 11-on-11 work Tuesday, suggesting he's at or near 100 percent health coming off ankle surgery. Already seen doing standing back flips this offseason, Skattebo seems ready to roll for the start of training camp next month. He's expected to have a leg up on Tyrone Tracy for the top job in the New York Giants' backfield under new coach John Harbaugh and OC Matt Nagy.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Taking part in drills at minicamp

Cam Skattebo (ankle) took part in running and agility drills at the first day of mandatory minicamp Monday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.Skattebo, who said in mid-May that he expects to be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 regular season, is roughly eight months removed from the dislocated right ankle that limited him to eight games as a rookie. While it doesn't yet appear that the 2025 fourth-round pick has been cleared for full team drills, it's encouraging to see him demonstrate lateral quickness in on-field individual drills. The New York Giants may be targeting training camp in July as the next major step forward in Skattebo's recovery.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Says he'll be ready for Week 1

Cam Skattebo (ankle) said at the New York Giants Town Hall on Monday night that he is expecting to be ready to play in Week 1 of the upcoming campaign, Kevin Patra of the team's official site reports.Skattebo's comments Monday echo what Giants GM Joe Schoen relayed in late March, when he shared that the running back was declaring himself "ready to go." Skattebo did add Monday that he's not yet ready to take the field for OTAs, but that doesn't appear to be causing him any concern about his readiness for Week 1. New York hasn't added to its RB room during the offseason outside of signing undrafted rookie Damon Bankston, but it did sign All-Pro fullback Patrick Ricard, so Skattebo could be set up for a big sophomore campaign.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Attending voluntary workouts

Cam Skattebo (ankle) is present for the start of voluntary workouts Tuesday, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.New New York Giants coach John Harbaugh said Tuesday that Skattebo (ankle) is ahead of Malik Nabers (knee) in his rehab, but both players are present for the start of voluntary workouts. Per Harbaugh, it is possible Skattebo will resume handling on-field activities this spring. The 2025 fourth-round pick attended Arizona State's Pro Day in late March and was spotted jogging and running without any apparent issues. He suffered a dislocated right ankle in late October and appears to be on track for the start of OTAs.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Looking fully healthy

Cam Skattebo attended Arizona State's Pro Day on Friday and appeared to have no lingering limitations from his right ankle surgery, Dan Salomone of the New York Giants' official site reports.Giants GM Joe Schoen also was in attendance for Arizona State's Pro Day and described Skattebo as "jogging around, running, jumping on ex-teammates' backs and stuff like that." Schoen further commented that Skattebo is "declaring himself he's ready to go." Schoen said in January that Skattebo should be ready for the beginning of OTAs, and that appears to remain a genuine possibility.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Targeting start of OTAs

New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen said Tuesday that Cam Skattebo (ankle) should be ready for the beginning of OTAs, Evan Barnes of Newsday reports.Skattebo is recovering from a dislocated right ankle suffered in late October, and he remains on track in his recovery, having shed his walking boot around the eight-week mark. The 2025 fourth-round pick said in early January that he expects to be ready for the start of training camp in late July, but being on the field for the beginning of OTAs around late May would represent an even better outcome. By all accounts, Skattebo appears fully on track to be able to ramp up the intensity of his on-field activity throughout the offseason and to be at 100 percent form by the start of the 2026 campaign. Across eight regular-season appearances as a rookie, Skattebo carried the ball 101 times for 410 yards (4.1 YPC) and five touchdowns. He also secured 24 of 32 targets for 207 yards and two scores.

Giants' Cam Skattebo: Out of walking boot

Cam Skattebo (ankle) is on schedule in his recovery from a dislocated right ankle, having shed his walking boot after eight weeks, and he's aiming to be back by training camp if not for spring practices, Dan Salomone of the New York Giants' official site reports.Skattebo is now close to 10 weeks removed from his late-October ankle injury, and he's set to start "upping" his speed soon as he works to get back the dorsiflexion (upward movement) in his right foot after shedding his walking boot. The 2025 fourth-round draft pick expects to be ready by training camp in July, which would put him well on track to ramp up to full speed by the start of the 2026 campaign. Once he's healthy, Skattebo could reclaim the top spot in the Giants backfield over Tyrone Tracy.
