Buccaneers' Joe Tryon-Shoyinka: Dealing with sprain
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka missed Saturday's practice due to a shoulder sprain, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.Laine adds that the injury is not believed to be serious, so Tryon-Shoyinka could conceivably be back on the practice field following Sunday's team off day. The fourth-year pro did not have his fifth-year option picked up this offseason, so he's facing a pivotal season in which he should once again fill a versatile role that includes pass rushing and dropping into coverage against running backs and tight ends.

Buccaneers' Joe Tryon-Shoyinka: Won't get option picked up
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers informed Joe Tryon-Shoyinka on Wednesday that they won't exercise the $13.25 million team option for 2025 on his rookie contract, Luke Easterling of USA Today reports.Tryon-Shoyinka is now set to become a free agent after the 2024 season, his fourth in the NFL. Though the Washington product has been a key rotational edge rusher through his first three NFL seasons, he hasn't performed at a high enough level to warrant a $13.25 million salary for 2025. However, he did post career highs with 45 combined tackles and five sacks last season, despite playing 250 fewer defensive snaps than he did in 2022.

Buccaneers' Joe Tryon-Shoyinka: Solid but unspectacular season
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka recorded 45 tackles (28 solo), including 5.0 sacks, a pass defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery across 17 regular-season games in 2023. He added four stops (two solo) in two postseason contests. The 2021 first-round pick did set new personal bests in tackles and sacks while forcing and recording the first turnovers of his career. However, Tryon-Shoyinka still struggled with consistency in terms of getting to the quarterback, recording only two sacks after Week 6 despite remaining healthy throughout the campaign. Tryon-Shoyinka also posted four or fewer tackles in 18 of 19 total games, and he saw third-round rookie YaYa Diaby outperform him and eventually take over the starting left outside linebacker role. Tryon-Shoyinka has one year remaining on his rookie contract, and considering his experience in Todd Bowles' defensive system, he should play a solid rotational role, at minimum, in 2024.

Buccaneers' Joe Tryon-Shoyinka: Tallies third sack in Week 6 loss
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka recorded four tackles (three solo), including a sack, and also defensed a pass in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 20-6 loss to the Lions on Sunday.Tryon-Shoyinka snapped a two-game sackless streak with a second-quarter takedown of Jared Goff. Tryon-Shoyinka's four tackles also tied a season high, but the third-year linebacker is yet to truly live up to his pedigree as a 2021 first-round pick despite Todd Bowles' aggressive scheme setting its linebackers up for plenty of pass-rushing opportunities.

Buccaneers' Joe Tryon-Shoyinka: Pair of sacks in Week 2 win
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka posted four tackles, including two sacks, and logged an additional quarterback hit in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 27-17 win over the Bears on Sunday. The third-year edge rusher recorded the second multi-sack game of his career, with the first having come way back in Week 4 of his rookie 2021 campaign. Tryon-Shoyinka has struggled to fully live up to his first-round pedigree over his first pair of seasons, but he was expected to take a big step forward in 2023 after an impressive training camp. While his momentum didn't carry over into the regular-season opener -- Tryon-Shoyinka posted just two total tackles in that win over the Vikings -- perhaps his effort against the Bears will serve as a launch pad for a surge in production.

Buccaneers' Joe Tryon-Shoyinka: Showing off edge-rushing skills
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka stood out in Monday's pass-rush drills, Brianna Dix of the team's official site reports. The 2021 first-round pick has amassed four sacks apiece in each of his first two seasons, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are banking on a significant step forward from the edge-rushing linebacker in 2023. Tryon-Shoyinka offered reason for optimism in that regard Monday, with Dix noting the Washington product put on a nifty inside-outside move that gave him a free path to a sack. Tryon-Shoyinka has continued to hone in on his technique throughout the offseason and continues to display excellent burst off the edge, traits that could lead to career-best numbers in 2023.

Buccaneers' Joe Tryon-Shoyinka: Career outing Sunday
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka recorded seven solo tackles during Sunday's 30-24 victory versus Carolina.Tryon-Shoyinka recorded a career high in tackles while also logging more than four stops for the first time this season Week 17. The second-year linebacker opened the season in a rotational role at edge rusher, though he has now played all but one defensive snap with Genard Avery (abdomen) and Shaquil Barrett (Achilles) both on IR over the past three weeks. With the NFC South now officially locked up, it's possible Tryon-Shoyinka could play decreased snaps if Tampa Bay decides to rest some starters Week 18 against Atlanta.
