Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Ready for contract year

Jonathan Taylor is entering the final season of his contract and said during the spring that he wants "to be a Colt for life," James Boyd of The Athletic reports.Taylor remains the clear centerpiece of Indianapolis' offense after handling 323 carries for 1,585 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2025. Though there is some uncertainty about Taylor's future with the Indianapolis Colts beyond 2026, the contract situation shouldn't interfere with his short-term fantasy profile, as the team has every reason to continue leaning on one of the league's few true workhorse backs while Daniel Jones (Achilles) works back to 100 percent form. Another high-volume season would keep Taylor firmly in the RB1 mix while strengthening his case for a new deal with Indianapolis, or a strong market as a free agent in 2027. Boyd also speculates that Taylor could hold in at training camp and work to negotiate an extension before the 2026 regular season.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Coaching staff split on workload

Jonathan Taylor is prepared to handle another massive workload in 2026, though the Indianapolis Colts are hoping to ease the load on their star running back, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports."We definitely need to find ways to take some of that workload off him," running backs coach DeAndre Smith said of Taylor during the team's spring workouts, but coach Shane Steichen added, "It's hard to take (Taylor) off the field when he's running so good," and therein lies the Colts' conundrum. Taylor handled a league-high 323 rushing attempts in 2025, topping 300 for the third time in his career, and he managed to play in all 17 regular-season games for only the second time in six NFL campaigns. The Colts would like to ease some of the wear and tear on their star running back, but they likely won't feel comfortable doing so unless either 2025 fifth-round pick DJ Giddens or 2026 seventh-rounder Seth McGowan emerges as a capable alternative in the backfield.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Set for another huge workload?

Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen told reporters this offseason that it's a "fair assessment" to have concern about Jonathan Taylor's workload, but Steichen also said it's hard to take his star running back off the field when he's playing so well, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan reports.Steichen avoided the usual cliches about getting multiple running backs involved, instead telling reporters that he wants to see how Seth McGowan and DJ Giddens "come along" during training camp and then "go from there." In other words, Steichen isn't sure if he has another running back he can trust behind Taylor, who finished second at the position in both snap share (82.5 percent) and total offensive snaps (879) last season. Ameer Abdullah, now in Jacksonville, had a role as a third-down and hurry-up RB for part of the year, catching 16 passes on 85 snaps. The other running backs, including Giddens, barely saw the field unless it was on special teams or in the fourth quarter of a blowout. The Colts added McGowan in the seventh round this spring after taking Giddens in the fifth round last year, and their other depth RBs are all undrafted players with no meaningful NFL experience. Long story short, Taylor is primed for another huge workload, with the bigger concern being general offensive efficiency in Indianapolis as Jones comes back from major surgery to rejoin an offense that no longer has WR Michael Pittman (Steelers) or RT Braden Smith (Texans).

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Held in check in season finale

Jonathan Taylor carried the ball 14 times for 26 yards and caught both his targets for 13 yards in Sunday's 38-30 loss to the Texans. It was the least productive game of the season for Taylor, as his longest run went for only eight yards and rookie DJ Giddens wound up leading the Indianapolis Colts with 30 rushing yards. Taylor missed his chance to catch James Cook for the NFL rushing crown, but he still wraps up an impressive campaign with 1,585 rushing yards and a career-high 18 TDs on the ground, along with a 46-378-2 line on 55 targets through the air. The 26-year-old RB will head into 2026 as the centerpiece of the Indianapolis offense.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Reaches end zone in Week 17

Jonathan Taylor rushed the ball 21 times for 70 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Jaguars. He added three receptions on six targets for 14 yards. The Jaguars boast one of the best run defenses in the league, and they made running room hard to come by for Taylor. His longest rush went for only 10 yards, though he still turned in a solid fantasy performance thanks to his volume of touches as well as a three-yard touchdown plunge early in the second quarter. Taylor now has 20 total touchdowns for the season and has at least 70 yards from scrimmage in five consecutive contests. It's unclear if the Indianapolis Colts will alter their backfield usage in Week 18 after being eliminated from playoff contention, but Taylor will face a very tough Texans run defense to close the 2025 campaign.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Stymied in Week 16 home loss

Jonathan Taylor rushed 16 times for 46 yards and a touchdown and brought in all three targets for 33 yards in the Indianapolis Colts' 48-27 loss to the 49ers on Monday night.Taylor salvaged his fantasy night with a one-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, which narrowed a 34-20 deficit. The star back otherwise was stonewalled on the ground for the majority of the night, although he made some solid contributions as a receiver. Taylor's rushing yardage total was his second lowest of the season, while his average of 2.9 yards per carry was a new low-water mark. He hasn't eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground since his memorable 244-yard performance against the Falcons in Berlin in Week 10, and he'll draw another tough matchup at home against the Jaguars in a Week 17 divisional clash Sunday.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Grinds for over 100 yards in loss

Jonathan Taylor rushed 25 times for 87 yards while bringing in three of four targets for 14 receiving yards in Sunday's 18-16 loss to Seattle.Since 44-year-old Philip Rivers wasn't able to be a downfield threat in his first start since 2021, he wasn't able to take the pressure off Taylor and Indianapolis' ground game Sunday. Once the Seahawks realized this, the defense was consistently stacking the box against the Indianapolis Colts' top weapon on offense, resulting in a pedestrian mark of 3.5 yards per carry. Taylor suffered a similar fate against Jacksonville in Week 14 after Daniel Jones (Achilles) left the contest, so it may be tough sledding for the superstar running back going forward without the threat of a deep passing attack. The 26-year-old Taylor will receive a heavy workload to help offset the recent drop in efficiency, and a soft matchup against the 49ers' defense next Monday boosts his prospects for Week 16.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Scores early TD in loss

Jonathan Taylor rushed the ball 21 times for 74 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 36-19 loss to the Jaguars. He also lost a fumble.Taylor got off to a strong start, racking up 15 yards and a touchdown on four carries on the Indianapolis Colts' second drive. However, things went downhill from there, as Daniel Jones (Achilles) exited the game, allowing the Jaguars' defense to focus their entire attention on Taylor, and Taylor also lost a fumble early in the second quarter that led directly to a Jaguars' score. His efficiency had already suffered of late, and the state of the Colts' offense is a concern moving forward. Both factors dampen Taylor's fantasy outlook for the rest of the season, though his volume and ability to hit for long runs will still give him the chance to be a strong fantasy performer.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Grinds out solid showing

Jonathan Taylor rushed the ball 21 times for 85 yards in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Texans. He added three receptions on five targets for 36 yards.Taylor didn't have any of his typical explosive plays, but he had enough volume to top 100 yards from scrimmage. His receiving line was particularly notable, as he matched his season high with five targets while topping 30 receiving yards for the fourth time. Taylor has gotten a bit more inconsistent on the ground of late, topping 90 rushing yards in only half of his lats six games. However, he's still found the end zone nine times in that span while topping 100 yards from scrimmage four times.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Bottled up in OT loss

Jonathan Taylor rushed 16 times for 58 yards and brought in two of three targets for eight yards in the Indianapolis Colts' 23-20 overtime loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. The Chiefs' defense did a number on Taylor, with the star running back finishing under 60 rushing yards for only the second time in 11 games. Taylor was coming off a season-high 244 rushing yards and three rushing scores in Week 10 against the Falcons before the Colts' bye, and Sunday also marked only the second time this season he failed to record more than one run of double-digit yardage. Taylor will aim to regroup at the expense of a tough Texans defense in a Week 13 home matchup next Sunday.
